The summer of 2017 has been very interesting so far for the NBA fans, and as we wait for the NBA season to start there are many great stories happening this offseason. When it comes to the Boston Celtics, they've been very active over the past few weeks trying to improve and get better. After losing convincingly in the Eastern Conference Finals last season, it seems like the Celtics front office decided it is time to go "all in".

They realized that they need another All-Star caliber player in order to compete with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and Boston did just that. They acquired Gordon Hayward earlier this summer, as he chose to join the Celtics as a free-agent. In order to make things work financially, the Celtics had to move Avery Bradley to the Pistons and they also lost Kelly Olynyk. But even though Boston lost some key players from last season, the team announced on Monday that Paul Pierce will be back in Boston Celtics uniform.

Pierce back where it all started

The Boston Celtics announced on Monday that they have signed Paul Pierce to a one-day deal, as he looks to retire as a member of the Boston Celtics.

Following this report, co-owner of the Celtics, Wyc Grousbeck said: "We're honored that Paul has chosen to retire as a Celtic."

Pierce signed the contract on Monday afternoon, and he seemed extremely excited to have the opportunity to retire in the Celtics uniform. "I couldn't imagine ending my career any other way. I'm a Celtic for life." Pierce said, before suiting up in Boston's green practice gear and taking some shots at the Celtics practice facility. Pierce drained a couple of his signature shots, and then went on to sign his signature Nike shoes and give them back to the team.

Hall of Fame career for 'The Truth'

Paul Pierce was drafted by the Boston Celtics as the 10th overall pick in the 1998 NBA Draft.

Even though he grew up in Los Angeles and was a Lakers fan early on, it wasn't long before he became the fan-favorite in Boston. He spent the first 15 seasons of his career playing in Boston, and he helped the Celtics win the NBA title in 2008.

Pierce was named the Finals MVP in 2008 as he brought the Celtics their 17th Championship in team history that year. Pierce will turn 40 in October, and last season he played 25 games for the Los Angeles Clippers. He made the All-Star team 10 times in his career and he holds career averages of 19.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.
