The recent success of the Golden State Warriors has many teams chasing after them for a championship. The Warriors have won two the last three championships and could be on a path to win much more. How many titles do The Warriors have to win to be the best franchise in basketball? Here are the latest all-time championship standings.

1. Boston Celtics-17

Despite not winning a championship in ten years, the Celtics still have the most championships out of the entire NBA. Most older fans will remember when they won eight titles in ten seasons. It's possible that the Warriors could be on that track now.

2. Los Angeles Lakers-16

The Lakers had a dominant stretch of four titles in the eighties and then won five with Kobe Bryant leading the team. The Lakers are still far from winning a title but could try and make a run at winning one down the road if they convince LeBron James to join the Lakers.

3. Chicago Bulls-6

The gap drops here with the Bulls who won all six of their titles during the Michael Jordan era. The last title for the Bulls was the 1997-1998 season. Bulls fans won't see this number grow shortly as the franchise is facing a major rebuild.

4. Golden State Warriors/San Antonio Spurs-5

The Warriors won titles in 1946, 1956, and 1975 before winning their last two titles. The Warriors might overtake the Bulls for number three on the list as long as Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant, and Draymond Green are on the team.

The Spurs were led by the likes of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, David Robinson, and Manu Ginobili during their mini-dynasty run. Gregg Popovich is said to be possibly the greatest coach in history despite winning just five titles. The Spurs will always be a contender as long as "Pop" is around.

6. Detroit Pistons/Miami Heat/Philadelphia 76ers-3

The Miami Heat has had the most recent success. The Heat won their first title in history in 2006 when Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O'Neal teamed up for the title win. Then, James, Wade, and Chris Bosh formed the famous "Big 3" to win titles in 2012 and 2013.

The Pistons haven't won a title since 2004.

That team featured Chauncey Billups, Rip Hamilton, and the Wallaces of Ben and Rasheed. You have to go back to the "Bad Boys" of the late 80s with Isiah Thomas. The 76ers have the longest drought of the three with their latest title coming in 1983. Allen Iverson took the team to an NBA Finals back in 2001 before falling to the Lakers.

9. Houston Rockets/New York Knicks-2

Both teams are suffering long title droughts. The Rockets went back-to-back in 1993 and 1994 when Hakeem Olajuwon led the team to two titles. The Rockets are looking to make a run to overthrow the Warriors this season after making a trade for Chris Paul and rumored to be a suitor for Carmelo Anthony. The Knicks, which is where Anthony is currently, have not seen an NBA title since 1973.

The Knicks have been a mess for the last 17 years, making the playoffs just five times, and winning one playoff appearance.

11. Nine teams tied with one

The Cleveland Cavaliers won a title in 2016 by the trio of James, Kevin Love, and Kyrie Irving. The Dallas Mavericks won their only title in 2011 with a team lead by Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Terry, and Tyson Chandler. The Oklahoma City Thunder technically had won a title when they were the Seattle Supersonics back in 1979. The Thunder made an NBA Finals in 2012 before losing to the Heat. The Washington Wizards won their title in 1978. The Portland Trail Blazers won their first title in 1977, while the Milwaukee Bucks won a title in 1971. The Sacramento Kings won a title in 1951 as the Rochester Royals.

The Baltimore Bullets won a title in 1948, but do not exist anymore.

The teams with none

The Brooklyn Nets, Memphis Grizzlies, Charlotte Hornets, Toronto Raptors, Utah Jazz, Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Clippers, Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers, Orlando Magic, Minnesota Timberwolves, and New Orleans Pelicans have never won a championship in their history. That is a total of 12 NBA franchises that have never held the Larry O'Brien trophy. That means that nearly a third of the active teams in the NBA have never seen gold.
