On Tuesday, the fifth day of NBA Summer League Las Vegas for 2017 took place. Among the rookie prospects in action were the Boston Celtics' Jayson Tatum, Dallas Mavericks' Dennis Smith Jr., and Chicago Bulls' Lauri Markannen. All three players had decent outings and to make things even sweeter, their respective teams picked up Summer League victories. Here are the latest results for Tuesday's NBA games from Las Vegas, Nevada.
Celtics top 76ers
In what was originally going to be the second meeting between the No. 1 and No. 3 NBA Draft picks, only the Celtics' Jayson Tatum was on the court for the latest game.
The Sixers' Markelle Fultz was unfortunately sidelined by injury a few nights ago and will be out for the rest of the Summer League games.
Tatum went 6-for-15 in his latest outing, including a three-pointer. He finished with 15 points and six boards, along with two assists and a steal. Teammate Ante Zizic had a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds. Jaylen Brown was held to just seven points, but the Celtics outscored Philly 29-17 in the fourth. Boston left with an 88-83 victory and moved to 3-0 in Las Vegas.
Bulls and Mavs win
The Dallas Mavs and Chicago Bulls each got top prospects out of the latest NBA Draft several weeks ago. For the Mavericks, Dennis Smith Jr. has been showing his scoring abilities early on.
For the Bulls, it's been big man Lauri Markannen that has been impressive.
In Smith Jr.'s latest outing he shot just 4-for-10 from the field including one three-pointer made. However, he also knocked down seven free throws and ended up with 16 points. He added five assists, three boards, and three steals in a 78-73 victory over the Miami Heat.
Bam Adebayo had 13 points and nine rebounds in the Heat's loss.
The Chicago Bulls also were victorious in their latest NBA Summer League game. Lauri Markkanen picked up a nice double-double of 20 points and 10 boards on the day in a 6-for-17 shooting performance. Markkanen also knocked down four of the 10 three-point shots he attempted.
The Bulls picked up an 82-73 win on the day. Antonio Blakeney also gave the team 23 points on 9-for-17 shooting including a 4-for-5 rate from three-point range. Blakeney also pulled down eight boards in the win.
Other teams picking up wins on Tuesday included the Memphis Grizzlies 84-81 over the Utah Jazz in overtime and the Minnesota Timberwolves 78-76 over the Golden State Warriors in double overtime.
