The Green Bay Packers have a rich history. There was the ‘60s where they were one of the top pre-Super Bowl teams and then won the first two Super Bowl titles under quarterback Bart Starr. In the ‘90s, the Packers were back with Brett Favre at the lead and won again. Now, this is Aaron Rodgers team and he has won a Super Bowl as well. However, with Packers training camp here, Rodgers said that the one Super Bowl win is not enough and this team will not accept mediocrity.
Aaron Rodgers’ success with Packers
After backing up Brett Favre to start his career, Aaron Rodgers took over as the Green Bay Packers starting quarterback in 2008. In that time, he took the Packers to the Super Bowl in 2010 and won two NFL MVP awards in 2011 and 2014. Through his tenure as a starter, Rodgers led the Packers to the playoffs every season since taking over for Brett Favre. His Packers have a record of 9-7 in the postseason, going one-and-done three times.
Aaron Rodgers has the highest passer rating of any NFL quarterback in history with a minimum of 1,500 passing attempts. He has the fifth highest passer rating and the lowest career pass interception percentage.
Some fans are starting to compare Rodgers to Tom Brady but if Rodgers and the Packers don’t win more Super Bowls, that entire comparison will never ring true.
Packers accepting mediocrity
The mediocrity comment was never from Aaron Rodgers. Instead, last week at the Green Bay Packers shareholder meeting, president/CEO Mark Murphy said that he has heard from fans that his team had “accepted mediocrity.” This is despite eight straight years in the playoffs. Packers fans want championships and if any other team in the NFL is better than them in any given year, the constitutes “mediocrity” for some fans.
It is a level of play that Rodgers has helped the Packers achieve because teams like the Buffalo Bills, New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears, and more would love to have the success that the Green Bay Packers fans have “settled for.” Aaron Rodgers said he understands the fans disappointment and said that they team needs more titles.
However, fans who are not happy with general manager Ted Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy for only taking the team to the postseason every year might want to remember what it was like when they weren’t making it to the playoffs at all. The good news is that the Green Bay Packers are once again favorites to make it to the Super Bowl. Since their last Super Bowl win, Aaron Rodgers won two MVP awards and led the team from a 4-6 record to the NFC Championship game last season.
