The universe of World Wrestling Entertainment took wrestling to no limits on WWE Extreme Rules in Baltimore, Maryland on June 4, 2017. Alexa Bliss fights Bayley in a Kendo Stick on a Pole match while the Hardy Boyz take on Sheamus & Cesaro in a Steel Cage at the PPV. Seth Rollins, Samoa Joe, Bray Wyatt, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns fight in a Fatal Five Way Extreme Rules main event for a chance to face Brock Lesnar for his Universal Title.

The Miz gains more prestige

Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose takes on The Miz for the title with an unfavorable stipulation that if Dean intentionally disqualifies himself, he’ll lose the championship.

Mike Mizanin (Miz) tried to provoke Dean to go extreme, leading to A DDT on the ring apron and Daniel Bryan familiar dropkicks. Miz being the dirty in-ring veteran gets his wife and manager Maryse to slap him for possible DQ and then shoving Ambrose into the referee. Dean, being distracted with the ref, let Miz hit his Skull Crushing Finale to become a seven-time WWE Intercontinental Champion.

A mixed tag match involved hometown son Rich Swann with Sasha Banks fought Noam Dar and Alicia Fox. Sasha hit her signature double knees on Noam, giving Swann the go for a Phoenix Splash for the win. Next, Bayley took on RAW Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss in a Kendo Stick on a Pole Match. Bayley gets the kendo first, but Alexa inflicts pain with the stick first across the back.

Bayley fought honorably but Miss Bliss was more extreme for the PPV with merciless strikes, adding her patented DDT to get the pinfall.

Extreme championship matches

The Hardy Boyz faced Sheamus and Cesaro in a Steel Cage for the WWE RAW Tag Team Championships. Team Extreme (Matt & Jeff Hardy) and “Shecaro” were both brutal with Poetry in Motion and repeated bashes to the head from the cage.

Jeff escaped first, but the Charismatic Enigma inside drove him to execute a Whisper in the Wind from the top of the cage. In the end, a race ensued where Sheamus and Cesaro escaped last to win the Tag Team titles.

Austin Aries took on champion Neville for the third time for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship in a Submission Match.

Austin added insult to injury by stealing Neville’s finisher, seemingly having his number. Plenty of high-risk offense from Aries added extra effort with a sunset flip powerbomb from the top rope with a Last Chancery submission. In the end, Neville hit a rarely seen Red Arrow corkscrew flip onto Austin’s back, adding his Rings of Saturn to submit Aries at the PPV.

Samoan submission victory

Roman, Seth, Fin, Bray and Joe all fought to extreme boundaries in the main event. Roman was the dominant figure at the start, Samoan dropping and right punching almost everyone.

A short-term alliance of Bray & Joe was formed using steel steps to run over the remaining three competitors. The highlighted extreme moments included Roman spearing both Joe and Finn through the barricade and Seth Rollins Frog Splashing Bray through the announce table. Finn Balor executed his Coup de Grace on Reigns but Joe caught Finn with the Coquina Clutch, getting the victory as Brock Lesnar's first WWE Universal Title challenger.
