Money In The Bank, SmackDown Live’s exclusive pay-per-view, took place on June 18th, Sunday night with two ladder matches for both genders. The first ever women’s Money in the Bank Ladder match took place with Charlotte, Natalya, Tamina, Becky Lynch and Carmella.

Naomi fought Lana for the Women’s Championship while The Usos defend their tag team titles against The New Day. Randy Orton wrestled Jinder Mahal in a rematch for the WWE Championship, followed by the traditional MITB Ladder match.

First ever women’s MITB and The Usos retain

In the women’s Money in the Bank Ladder match, Tamina and Charlotte were the early dominant competitors, using their move-sets with the ladder.

Of course, one of these ladies would take a risk, and that was Charlotte hitting a cartwheel-like Twisted Bliss outside the ring.

The last two ladies standing were Becky Lynch and Carmella to fight for the briefcase, and Carmella took a powerbomb by Lynch. Before Becky was going to retrieve the briefcase, Carmella’s manager James Ellsworth dumped Becky on the ropes by tipping the ladder back. A perplexing finish as James climbed the ladder to get the contract yet tosses it to his friend Carmella for the win.

The New Day took on SmackDown Live Tag Team Champions the Usos in a title match. Big E hit his outside Spear between the ropes. The Usos regained momentum with a superkick to the leg and a Tequila Sunrise submission attempt.

Then the end was near as Kofi hit a high trust fall outside the ring and then proceeded to execute their Midnight Hour finisher on Jimmy Uso. Within a millisecond, Jay pulled his brother out the ring, and both decided to leave for a count-out loss to the New Day.

Lana and Maria debuts

Lana made her in-ring debut for a surprising title match against the Women’s Champion Naomi.

The Ravishing Russian Lana silenced some of her critics as she controlled the majority of the match, targeting Naomi’s left knee. Lana’s underestimated athleticism and power almost got her the win with a sit out spine buster. All of the sudden, the new Miss MITB winner Carmella comes out to watch the match to cash in her contract possibly.

In the end, Naomi countered Lana’s finisher with her FTG submission for the win.

A surprise debut and return shocked the WWE Universe as former Diva Maria Kanellis returned to WWE with her husband “The Miracle” Mike Bennett. Maria hasn’t been in WWE for seven years, but she has appeared for other top wrestling promotions like TNA Impact and Ring of Honor. During her absence, she found her soulmate in the wrestling business, and they have been successful so far. The newest SmackDown Live couple will add more heel heat to the mid card.

Jinder retains while Corbin becomes Mr. MITB

Randy Orton looked to gain his 14th WWE Championship in a rematch against Jinder Mahal. The Viper dished out early punishment to Mahal, but Orton tweaked his left knee early, allowing Jinder to torture the minor injury. The most audacious moment of the match was Jinder using a Figure Four submission, mocking the innovator of the move Ric Flair at the front row.

Randy diverted his attention on the Singh brothers who put their hands on his legendary father Bob Orton Jr, giving ferocious RKOs to both. Refocusing on the match, Orton fell to the Khallas by Jinder for another shocking pinfall in Randy’s hometown of St. Louis, Missouri.

AJ Styles, Dolph Ziggler, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, Shinsuke Nakamura and Baron Corbin showcased their resilience in the MITB Ladder Match.

Baron ambushed Shinsuke during his entrance so the match would turn into a five-way. Sami threw Owens on a ladder and sunset flip powerbombs Ziggler off the ladder.

Corbin choke-slams AJ on the hardware, yet later on Styles hit a Fireman’s Carry to Owens to the outside. Nakamura returned to the ring dishing out Strong Style to everyone except having a classic face-off with AJ Styles. Corbin pushed both AJ and Shinsuke off the ladder, allowing him to grab the briefcase to end the match
