tim tebow is one step closer to making it to the big show. You have to believe that it is just a matter of time before Tim Tebow plays in a major league baseball game, even if it doesn’t happen in 2017. Today Tebow is making progress to reaching that goal. ESPN has reported that the New York Mets are promoting Tebow from low-A ball to St. Lucie of the Advanced A League.
One step closer
While his numbers aren’t anything to write home about, the Mets didn’t sign Tebow to see what he could do in low A ball. Tebow’s promotion, in fact, is something that was expected to happen sometime this season.
After all, he has baseball experience, and the New York Mets brass will never know if he has any MLB type qualities in him unless they keep pushing him along.

Tebow was hitting .222 with three home runs, 23 RBI so far this season. He accumulated a .311 on-base percentage and a .340 slugging percentage with 69 strikeouts and 23 walks in 212 at-bats for the Columbia Fireflies in his time with the club. Now it is time to see what he can do with the Single A squad. Mets General Manager Sandy Alderson said that while he knows that Tebow isn’t tearing up the league, all of the indications are positive in terms of various criteria the Mets look for in a player, such as chase rates and exit velocity.
While Tebow’s batting average is lower than the Mets would like to see, Alderson said Tebow is improving, and that is why they want to see what he does at the next level of play.
Tebow mania will hit New York, but when?
If Tebow improves at Advanced A St. Lucie, could the 29-year-old former Heisman Trophy winner be called up to the big leagues?
That depends on many factors. If the Mets continue to struggle and are out of postseason play in late August, Tebow may be one of the many that the Mets tabbed to head north for the annual September call-ups.
If New York is in contention and competing for a possible run at the postseason, he may get called up in September, but not see much playing time.
Either way, the Mets don't want to make a mistake with Tebow. They know how much the media over analyzes Tebow's every move, and for the Mets organization, they only care about if and when he is good enough to help the team get some wins. Many New York Jets fans would love to see Tebow come up and do well for the Mets, especially since a lot of fans believe that Tebow never got a fair chance to see the playing field during his time with New York. One thing is for sure, many fans in New York would love to say they were there for Tebow's first MLB at-bat.
