The Nebraska football team has used the Friday Night Lights program in the last few years as a way to attracting the best players in the country.

On occasion, Nebraska has also used Friday Night Lights to attract some of the best talent in the state. Such is the case with yesterday’s event which brought one of the top 2019 in-state targets to Lincoln.

Nebraska offered Garrett Nelson after having a kind of whirlwind month where top programs have started to take notice. As HuskersOnline points out, it wasn’t that long ago Nelson was an unknown.

The homegrown Nebraska kid showed up to the Rivals camp without a single offer.

Since he showed what he can do, he received offers from South Dakota and South Dakota State. Now he’s getting more looks from big time schools.

After attending the big event last night, Nelson received an offer from Nebraska. Now the only question is whether or not he’ll be committing soon, or see what else this recruiting cycle will offer.

Nebraska football makes strong appeal for Garrett Nelson

The 2019 defensive end, who Nebraska could even slide in at linebacker put himself on the national stage at the Rivals camp. That appearance in St. Louis showed off Nelson’s frame and has seen his stock rise quite quickly.

Nebraska also had Nelson appear at their Big Man Camp. It was there that South Dakota and South Dakota State took notice and decided to give him an offer.

It’s not often the Huskers have their chief competition from the FCS but it appears they have some for Nelson.

Nebraska shrugging off loss of another recruit

While Nelson appears close to pulling the trigger for Nebraska already, the school did get some bad news on Friday. Nikko Remigio announced Friday afternoon what school he was planning on attending.

Nebraska had been a dark horse to get Remigio in the first place. Most believed he was going to be picking a west coast school. It turns out that’s exactly what he did.

Instead of Nebraka, Remigio announced he was headed to California. The announcement means the Huskers are going back to the drawing board.

Nebraska could get an addition to the 2018 class on Sunday

There is still a chance Nebraska could be getting some very big news this weekend. On Father’s day, wide receiver recruit Joshua Moore will be announcing his school.

Nebraska has long been the favorite to land Moore but Texas A&M and Florida State have gained some steam. Moore will announce at 3:00 pm which school he’s chosen.

If Nebraska can haul him in, it will be a big boost to the 2018 class. At the same time, a commitment from Nelson would be a boost to the 2019 class.
