Grueling NBA season is finally over and the Golden State Warriors are the champions for the 2016/2017 season. The Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals 4-1, in a rematch of last year's NBA Finals. Last year, the Cavaliers were down 3-1 to the Warriors and were able to overcome that deficit and win the NBA title. This year, with Kevin Durant in their roster, the Warriors were as dominant as any team in recent NBA history and they were able to win the championship in five games.
But even though the season is over, and the trophy is in Warriors' hands, the verbal jabs between the two teams have continued.
Draymond Green, the best defender on this Golden State team and their vocal leader, had something to say about LeBron James and the Cavaliers at the Warriors' championship parade earlier on Thursday.
"You started the superteam, bro!"
During Thursday's title celebration in front of ten of thousands of Golden State fans in Oakland, Draymond Green was at the podium talking about the Warriors being a "superteam" and he took a shot at LeBron James. Green also wore a T-shirt that read "Quickie" on it, and he said that the meaning behind it was the Warriors finishing off the Cavaliers "quickly".
During his speech, Draymond also said: "Everyone wanna talk about ‘superteam this, super team that,’ ‘I never played in a super team,’ you started the superteams, bro!" These comments were obviously pointed at LeBron James and his recent statements about him (James) not playing for a superteam.
James recently said that he doesn't believe he ever played for a superteam, and Draymond Green doesn't think so, obviously. As we recall, in 2010. LeBron joined Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami Heat, as they formed a so-called "Big Three". This Miami Heat team was largely recognized as a "super team" and they ended up winning two titles in a four-year span.
"I definitely didn't start the superteam"
On Thursday night, LeBron James appeared as a guest on a podcast called "Road Trippin". This podcast is hosted by Cleveland Cavaliers' players Richard Jefferson and Channing Frye, and in this episode that was released on Friday, James talked about Green's comments about him starting a superteam.
This is what LeBron had to say, "No, I definitely didn't start the superteam, if that's what he's trying to say." James also took it as a satisfaction - the fact that Draymond Green is talking about him on the day of their title celebration. "I just feel like that it's great that on the day you're celebrating your championship, my likeness and my name is in your head. I love that." James said.
In his recent Instagram post, LeBron posted a video of him working out in a gym and it appeared he shaved his head. Finally, some would say. Later that day, Draymond Green poked fun at LeBron James' new hairline by posting an Instagram post that said: "Them dubs finally made him go bald!!!" In their Thursday night's podcast episode, Jefferson and Frye were wondering if really the Warriors were the reason for James shaving his head finally.
James answered by saying: "No. Of course not. If that was the case, I would have grown an Afro."
One thing is for sure, LeBron James is a three-time NBA champion and nobody can take that away from him. Whether or not he started the "superteam" trend, he will be remembered as a champion and an all-time great.
