The Nebraska Football team's red-hot spring continued on Tuesday night as the school grabbed itself yet another commitment. The commitment was announced by the player himself first, though Head Coach mike riley was quick to follow up with his own special brand of celebration not long after the initial news broke. Because Riley is not allowed to talk specifically about a player by name until they have signed on the dotted line, he chose to hint at the fact the team had gotten itself another addition to the 2018 class.
On his official Twitter account, the Nebraska head coach announced, "The #Huskers just landed a deep threat from the south!
Love the way this class is coming together #GBR" Of course, to most people, a "deep threat" is a wide receiver who can really stretch the field. In this case, the Nebraska coach was talking about a player that can apparently kick the ball deep. The commit in question turned out to be kicker Barret Pickering.
Nebraska football keeps adding on
While the average Husker fan might not be getting that excited about Pickering, who hails from Alabama, one thing that has been proven under Riley is that the special teams is indeed incredibly important. The team is going through a bit of a transition in that area and it won't be long before Pickering could be one of the most important players on the team.

If the Southern kicker does indeed have the kind of leg the Nebraska coaches apparently expect, he could end up being something special. While the kicker is not going to add much to the 2018 class when it comes to rankings, he was plenty sought after.
Riley's tweet came shortly after Pickering put out his own tweet where he laid out just why he picked Nebraska over several other fine schools who were interested in his services.

Pickering picking up attention from teams other than Nebraska football
While the Alabama kicker had an offer only from Vanderbilt and Nebraska, he was getting looks from some of the better programs in the country.
Florida and Texas had been showing some interest in the young kicker, even if they had not given him a scholarship offer.
Pickering had picked up an offer from Nebraska less than a month ago and he had been taking unofficial visits to Florida and Texas before he decided once and for all that he wanted to play for the Huskers. Pickering is now the 9th commit for Nebraska's 2018 class and he's the fifth player to announce for the Huskers in less than a month.
