Adam Shefter is now reporting that his sources have confirmed the Bears will Release Jay Cutler. The Chicago Bears game-up the farm to grab Cutler from the Broncos. They gave up their starter Kyle Orton, a 2009 first round pick, a 2010 first round pick, and a 2009 third round pick. Cutler sat out all but 5 games last year with a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder and the injured thumb on his right hand.
Jay has every single passing record with the Bears organization but the big knock on him will be only getting to the playoffs one time in eight years. Also, they will blame the coaching rotation that he has had to endure in his eight-year career with the Bears.
Taking care of the football
In the 102 regular season games that Jay Cutler played with the Chicago Bears, he threw 109 interceptions. The first year Jay had with the Bears he threw a career-worst 26 interceptions. This was after we gave up a lot to get him from the Broncos. The best year that he had with Chicago was leading them to the NFC Championship game against the Packers in 2010.
He posted his best passer rating of 92.3 in 2015. With all his records in Chicago and success on the field is overshadowed by his struggles of protecting the football.
Rotating coaching staff
Jay Cutler has had almost no continuity with coaching in his whole tenure with the Chicago Bears. His most recent offensive coordinator, Dowell Loggains is Cutlers six one with the Bears. All the other coordinators have been fired from their positions except for one - Adam Gase, who was promoted to head coach of the Dolphins. Having this happen during your professional career this makes it very hard to get proficient in any system you are trying to learn. It was reported by ESPN that Head coach Mike Shanahan said, “All I can go by is what he did with me in Denver, and how he played and how he handled himself -- and you just say, ‘Holy cow!’ and you are kind of surprised it didn’t work out for whatever reasons.” Shanahan was Cutlers offensive coordinator in his time with the Broncos.
