Five months after starting the Hexagonal with a 1-2 home defeat to strong rival Mexico and a 4-0 trouncing against Costa Rica that eventually cost former USMNT's boss Jurgen Klinsmann his job, now the US Men's national team will return to full action this Friday in their bid to qualify for the Russia 2018 World cup when they play host to Honduras. The US Men's National Team is in the bottom place of the 2018 World Cup Qualifying series, which is certainly a tenuous position that would probably be made even more dangerous with anything less than a win on Friday at the Avaya Stadium in San Jose.Well, let's see which team will carry the day.

United States

No doubt, Friday's game is technically a must win game for the US Men's National Team, as they're in the bottom place of the Hexagonal after conceding defeats in their first two Hex games, trailing fifth place Trinidad and Tobago based on goal difference. According to most soccer pundits, a defeat conceded by the USMNT on Friday would leave them with no point and a very slim chance to ever reach the 2018 World Cup - perhaps this might just spell doom for their World Cup hope. In records, no team has ever progressed to a World Cup tournament after failing to record at least one point in their opening three Hex games.

No team has lost its opening two Hexagonal games at home and qualified for the World Cup, and no team has ever secured an automatic spot in the World Cup with just a point from its first three Hex games.

With all these records, I think the US national team need to be goal hungry this time as the ball is in their court to convincingly beat Honduras on Friday.

Honduras

Fourth-placed Honduras enter Friday's game after posting a 1-1-0 mark in their opening two Hex games. the Los Catrachos began the final round of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying series with a 1-0 home defeat to Panama, but a few days later the Honduras national team rebounded strongly in their second game, grabbing a vital 3 -1 home win against Trinidad & Tobago, thanks to Houston's forward Romell Quioto's goal and two assists from club-mate Boniek Garcia. This time, Los Catrachos hope to struggle out with a point against the USMNT at the Avaya Stadium as it will be a massive result for them in their 2018 World Cup qualification bid.
