There is some new Spice Girls news, just in, with only one city and three concert dates remaining in the 2019 Spice World concert tour. Despite not having Victoria Beckham on board, some physical problems with Mel B, and bad audio problems at Dublin and Cardiff, the shows went on beautifully.
As for the news, there is an upcoming movie project involving the Spice Girls, and this time Victoria will not be left behind.
Different from the “Giving You Everything” 2007 reunion documentary or even the 1997 “Spice World” musical comedy from their heyday, this Paramount project is an animated film.
Spice Girls in cartoon movie
It will be time to go back to the 1990s next year for Spice Girls fans. CBS News reports that Paramount Animation is indeed developing a movie starring the iconic UK girl band. It is scheduled to release sometime next year, and the story will cast the musical quintet of Mel Brown, Mel Chisholm, Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell, and Victoria Beckham as a team of superheroes, with a message of friendship and of course, Girl Power.
And as already mentioned, unlike the foursome that performed in the recent Spice World 2019 UK-Ireland tour, this time Victoria is with the team.
And like the same-named 1997 movie the Spice Girls starred in, this animated film from Paramount is going to be a musical. It is guaranteed not only to have a powerful selection of the group’s best songs from their classic 1990s albums but also have entirely new tracks sung by the British five-some debuting just for this production. The project itself is an original Spice Girls idea that they proposed to Paramount, according to their animation arm’s president Mireille Soria. In an interview, she assured that the girls are totally involved from the movie’s conception.
Reunion of manager and talents
This yet-untitled Spice Girls film from Paramount Animation will, of course, star Scary, Sporty, Baby, Ginger and Posh Spice providing their voice talent to their drawn counterparts. The Guardian also adds that Simon Fuller, nowadays known as the creator of the “Idol” reality singing global franchise but was also the Spice Girls’ manager during their absolute heyday, returns to collaborate with them as the movie’s producer. Screenwriter Kiwi Smith of “Legally Blonde” fame will co-write the story with Karen McCullah. It will be one of several animated motion pictures from Paramount releasing in 2020 alongside a new “Spongebob Squarepants” movie.
Movie-wise, the Spice Girls are able to hold their own at the box office like with “Spice World” in 1997, which was a modest blockbuster with equally good sales on DVD despite scathing critic reviews.
