The CBS daytime drama "The Young and the Restless" continues to reign supreme among the four remaining soap opera's. The show recently won three 2019 Daytime Emmy Awards in spite of fans disagreeing with the way Mal Young changed the popular program. "Y&R" won for Outstanding Daytime Drama, writing and directing. In spite of changing television habits, including cable and the internet, Genoa City has five million loyal viewers. Now that Josh Griffith has taken over the helm, spoiler alerts indicate the great writing will continue. May Sweeps is especially promising this year with the return of Adam and other beloved characters.

'Y&R' reigns supreme

During the past year, viewership was down, for "The Young and the Restless," due to Mal Young changing Genoa City history. Fans were dismayed at how long the J.T. Helstrom mystery took to be concluded and they were stunned when Doug Davidson was fired from the show after 40 years. The Rosales family was placed front and center in almost every episode, while Abbott's and Newmans were cast to the side. Fans complained and the CBS powers that be listened, and Mal Young was fired.

It is ironic that Young was at the Daytime Emmy Awards to take credit for the honor when he almost destroyed the show. Fans have voiced their outrage that such a thing could happen. Josh Griffith is the man who turned "Y&R" around and perhaps he will get his honors next year.

Since Griffith too the helm, Adam Newman has returned and Ashley has been back on screen. Michelle Stafford will soon reprise her role as Phyllis, and Celeb Dirty Laundry is reporting that Elizabeth Hendrickson may return as Chloe Mitchell.

May sweeps on 'Y&R' will be exciting

One of the reasons fans enjoy "Y&R" so much is that the core families have remained the same over the decades.

New characters come to the show as extensions of the beloved Abbott;'s and Newman's. Unfortunately Mal Young thrust the Rosales siblings and Mia into front burner status, without giving fans time to warm up to them. Replacing 40-year veteran Doung Davidson to introduce an entirely new family was not a good idea.

Now Paul is back and about to bust Mia for attacking Lola, as Victor and Sharon try to help Adam regain his memory.

Earlier spoilers have reported that Kevin and Chelsea may soon return to Genoa City. If "The Young and the Restless" can win three Emmy's in the midst of all the disgruntled fans and decreased viewers, just imagine next year after favorite characters return to the screen and the viewing audience is pleased with what they are seeing.
