Scarlett Johansson stands to make some major bank for her upcoming standalone superhero film! Reportedly, the actor, who portrays Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is set to make a hefty $15 million for her solo movie. That would give the popular Hollywood star a payday matching that of two of her male co-stars from the Avengers team.
Scarlett Johansson's payday
A report from The Hollywood Reporter says that Scarlett Johansson will get $15 million for her solo "Black Widow" film. That's a decent payout for Johansson, although she's been in the role for quite some time. However, that amount is going to put her on par with what several of her Avengers co-stars received for recent films they made.
The $15 million for "Black Widow" hasn't been confirmed by the studio yet, but various sources told THR that was the figure. If it is, in fact, true, it matches similar paydays that actors Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth received. Evans and Hemsworth reportedly received that amount for their standalone films "Captain America: Civil War" and "Thor: Ragnarok." The two actors also received that amount for "Avengers: Infinity War" and the 2019 "Avengers 4" movie, which has a teaser trailer in November.
Interestingly, the first Iron Man film brought Robert Downey Jr. just a $500,000 payout. However, his character has continued to star in numerous sequels and MCU-connected Movies. For "Avengers," he collected a cool $50 million, while Johansson reportedly received something in the "low seven-figure" range.
Black Widow character and movie details
Up until now, Scarlett Johansson has appeared in a total of six MCU films. She debuted in "Iron Man 2," as a spy working alongside Tony Stark (aka Iron Man). She'd return as part of the original Avengers team in their first film. From there, she continued in the role for "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," "Avengers: Age of Ultron," "Captain America: Civil War," and the mega-hit "Avengers: Infinity War" this past summer.
She'll play the superspy Natasha Romanoff (aka Black Widow) in the movie. It's rumored to take place ahead of the first "Avengers" film and may give some of the stories behind Romanoff/Black Widow. The new "Black Widow" film hasn't received an official release date, yet. However, it has a director, as Cate Shortland will be at the helm. The story could very well come from the Marvel comics, to show some of Romanoff's origin as Black Widow.
It won't be Marvel's first solo female superhero movie, either. Brie Larson will take that gig with 2019's "Captain Marvel," which is expected to be one of the biggest superhero movies, on the way in the next year.
