CNN has confirmed that the CBS comedy "The Big Bang Theory," will come to a conclusion in 2019. CBS announced that the show's upcoming Season 12 will be its final season. The show made history as being the longest running multi-camera sitcom in TV history.
Warner Bros. Television released a statement saying they were grateful for their fans and their support of the hit show over the last twelve seasons.
They also said they are working to deliver a final season and series finale that will give fans a great finish.
"The Big Bang Theory" was created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady. The hit comedy will have a record 279 episodes when it concludes in May. The decision was made just weeks after CBS Entertainment said the network was holding talks to renew the show for another season.
"The Big Bang Theory" is entering its 12th season this fall after WBTV reached agreements with the cast, deals that were rumored to be worth $900,000 each. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg and Kunal Nayyar took massive $100,000 pay cuts to keep co-stars Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch in the show.
The Big Bang Theory future rested on Jim Parson
The decision to conclude the series rested on the show's main star Jim Parsons. His fellow co-stars agreed to return if Parsons wanted to do more episodes as well. The announcement came a day after the season 12 premiere filmed before a live audience on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank.
Chuck Lorre previously told The Hollywood Reporter in 2017 that season 12 could possibly be the end of the comedy series. The season 11 finale concluded with the much-anticipated wedding between Sheldon (Parsons) and Amy (Bialik). Many viewers expected the wedding to be the end game for the series. The final season is expected to explore the couple's major scientific breakthrough.
The Big Bang Theory waves goodbye as a major success for CBS
The is wrapping up as it continues to be a massive ratings boom for the network and was the launching pad for the prequel spinoff "Young Sheldon," last season. The prequel has already been renewed for another season. "Young Sheldon," became a top 10 comedy this season among the 18-49 adults demographics.
"The Big Bang Theory," received 52 Emmy nominations, earning 10 wins, but failed to win for outstanding comedy series. It was TV's No. 1 comedy until the 2017-2018 season when ABC aired the "Roseanne" revival, which pushed the comedy to second. Fans all over the world are sad to see the hit show come to an end.
