On June 29, Steve Ditko, who co-wrote "Spider-Man" along with Stan Lee, was confirmed dead at the age of 90. Spider-Man ended up being one of the most famous comic book superheroes of all time.
According to The Washington Post, Ditko's superhuman characters made him one of the most “innovative artists in the world of comics.” His work was essential in creating superhero characters, which influenced the creation of other teen heroes, such as Miles Morales, another version of Spider-Man.
Steve Ditko, remembered
Shortly after Ditko’s death, people took to Twitter to voice their reactions to Ditko’s death.
According to NPR, Marvel Comics chief creative officer, Joe Quesada, stated that “In his lifetime he blessed us with gorgeous art, fantastical stories, heroic characters and a mystical persona worthy of some of his greatest creations.” He was a beloved writer for decades and Quesada emphasizes the love people had for Ditko’s work.
According to a report by The Washington Post, Blake Bell, the author of “Strange and Stranger: The World of Steve Ditko,” talked about Ditko’s inspiration for the character. He said that “It was Ditko who wanted to ground the strip in reality, to see what it was like to be a hero through the eyes of a teenager and to struggle.” He was lauded for his unique take on teenagers, as well as for the responsibility of being a superhero as a teen.
Cause of death is unknown
While many people were left shocked by the famous writer’s death, it is not known as to what led to his death, According to a report from NPR, Ditko was found dead in his Manhattan apartment. A friend had not seen him in a long time and he was worried about his whereabouts. Based on what police found, there were no signs of trauma or any serious injuries.
Ditko’s legacy continues
Ditko will always be remembered for his unique perspective on heroes, as well as his joyful enthusiasm about writing. His character has appeared in movies, video games, and TV shows.
Three different actors portrayed Spider-Man and each one showed a different personality of the web-slinger in live-action films.
The three actors who present the hero are Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland, the most recent incarnation of the character.
Hopefully, we will see more appearances of the web-slinger, as Ditko’s legacy moves on. As more appearances are introduced, Spider-Man will have a greater impact on more teens around the world.
While there are many other Marvel heroes to love, like Iron Man and Thor, Spider-Man is loved by many fans. His legacy will remain with us as Spider-Man’s movies, games, and animes move on.
