Matt Lauer just lost his job, and could soon be losing his marriage as well. Just hours after the "Today" show anchor was fired from his position after allegations of sexually impropriety, there are new reports hinting that he could be headed for divorce with wife Annette Roque as well.

On Wednesday morning, NBC announced that Lauer had been fired after a female colleague filed a complaint of improper sexual behavior. "Today" co-host Savannah Guthrie tearfully announced the anchor's firing, which came as a shock both to viewers and the show's on-air talent, who were reportedly told shortly before the announcement.

Matt Lauer could be headed for divorce

Lauer and wife Annette Roque nearly divorced a decade ago, when Lauer's wife filed divorce papers in 2006 that claimed she suffered "cruel and inhumane" treatment from Lauer. Roque eventually withdrew the petition, and the couple has remained married ever since.

But there are new signs that the couple could be headed for divorce, this time for real. A report from People magazine claimed that Lauer had been regularly cheating on Annette Roque, which was something of an open secret. A source told the outlet that Lauer had a number of affairs, and almost always with women whom he had seniority over at the "Today" show. But the source said that Lauer also never made unwanted advances, making the new allegations something of a shock.

Another report suggested that Lauer and his wife could be taking a step toward divorce. Radar Online reported that the couple has been living Separate Lives for years.

More allegations against Matt Lauer surface

The drama for Matt Lauer did not end with his firing from the "Today" show. In the hours after the shocking announcement, at least two new people came forward to claim that he had acted in an inappropriate manner with them.

Lauer released a statement claiming that he felt "sorrow and regret" for the pain his actions had caused.

Matt Lauer's statement did not address the divorce rumors, however. Annette Roque has also remained silent on the allegations, though reports indicated that Lauer has focused on his family amid the drama. He reportedly left New York to visit his 16-year-old son at boarding school and explain in person why he was fired from the "Today" show.

It is not clear when viewers might see Lauer again, as he gave no indication when -- or if -- he might be planning to return to television.
