"Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" spoilers reveal three alternate versions of Spider-Man and details about its villains. Directors Bob Persichetti and Rodney Rothman discussed the characters of the animated "Spidey" film, in detail, during an interview with Screen Rant at this year's San Diego Comic-Con event.
"Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" tells the story of Miles Morales, a Brooklyn-born teenager who has superpowers after being bitten by a genetically altered spider. He then learns how to be a superhero after meeting Peter Parker and discovers that there are others just like them from across the multiverse.
Ultimate Green Goblin and Kingpin
According to Screen Rant, Bob Persichetti and Rodney Rothman revealed that both villains will be different from their previous media adaptations. The Green Goblin is more monster than man and Kingpin's demeanor is inspired by Vincent D'Ornofrio's portrayal of the character from the "Daredevil" Netflix series. Green Goblin in the animated movie is loosely based from the Ultimate Marvel Universe. Norman Osborn injected himself with an experimental goblin serum that turned him into a hulking beast. Unlike his mainstream counterpart, he does not use any advanced weaponry or the goblin glider. He can leap high buildings, climb surfaces with his claws, and fires flame projectiles from his fists.
As for Kingpin, Rothman described him as both philanthropist and a bad guy. He also commended "Salt" actor Liev Schreiber for showcasing Kingpin's power and notoriety in the animated film.
Three new Spider-Men for 'Into the Spider-Verse'
Polygon reported that three new web-slingers will join Miles Morales, Peter Parker, and Gwen Stacy, who was introduced in the new trailer, in "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse." They will be Peter Parker Noir, Peni Parker, and Spider-Ham.
It was previously reported that "Ghost Rider" star Nicolas Cage will be voicing Spidey Noir in the film. This version of Peter grew up in a universe during "The Great Depression" and received his powers from a Spider God. He then used his new-found power to fight his word's Norman Osborn and criminal empire. Peni Parker pilots a mech called SP//dr after her father's death and uses it to defend the city with the help of her world's Aunt May and Uncle Ben. Spider-Ham is a cartoon pig, who was once the pet spider of May Porker. When May was covered in radioactive energy, she bit her pet and it transformed into a sentient super-powered pig.
