Actor Laurence Fishburne is known for a large number of roles, with "The Matrix" trilogy probably among his best known so far. He will also be part of the upcoming "Ant-Man and The Wasp" movie starring Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly. With that said, Fishburne recently talked about another Marvel character he'd like to help bring to life on the big screen: Galactus.

Galactus' comic book background

For most Marvel fans, Galactus is a well-known supervillain. The first and oldest entity in the Marvel Universe, he has been a major nemesis for The Avengers, Silver Surfer, and Fantastic Four over the years.

The character first appeared way back in 1966's Fantastic Four issue No. 48, which now commands a pretty penny for those trying to acquire it. He's considered the most feared entity in all of the cosmos and is also known as the "Devourer of Worlds" or "The Lifebringer." The Marvel supervillain is seen and heard in the video clip below from the animated series "Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H." Season 1.

While he's been a major force within the comics and in the animated shows, Galactus has yet to appear in a Marvel film. That's because they don't currently own the rights for the character. Just like the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Dr. Doom, the Galactus character belongs to Fox at the moment.

Disney is still in that bidding war with Comcast to try to obtain those property rights, among other Fox assets. So Marvel Studios is still hopeful for Disney to come through.

Fishburne is interested in the role

As the Comic Book website reported, actor Laurence Fishburne has pretty much nominated himself for the supervillain role, if it ever takes place on screen.

Fishburne mentioned that he previously did the voice for the Silver Surfer in the "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" movie. Interestingly, Silver Surfer is among one of the characters that cross paths with the "Devourer of Worlds." Galactus often served as a "master" for Silver Surfer who was his "herald" in the comic books.

Unfortunately, that "F4" film, which came out in 2007, didn't garner much praise from fans or critics. Still, Fishburne's got plenty of acting experience. That would lend itself toward him bringing Galactus to life. Much like Josh Brolin did for Thanos, Fishburne could do the same for Galactus. Brolin was mostly a voice, with CGI to create the big bad guy for "Avengers: Infinity War," but his performance was strong and featured prominently in the film.

If the Disney company ends up acquiring the Fox-owned properties, then it creates plenty of opportunities for new heroes and villains to take shape in the MCU. With that said, Fishburne seems like a great candidate for Galactus, when the time arrives. Until then, fans will get to watch him in the next Marvel release, "Ant-Man and The Wasp," which opens on July 6.
