The "Modern Family" actress took to her Twitter page on Wednesday night (March 21) to address a health concern. She tweeted out to her 1.6 million followers, "For those who are chronically ill and in chronic pain: Have you had the experience of doctors not listening to you? If so, how do you not tear their heads off with your bare hands? :)"
Hyland has been very open about her ongoing health issues in the media for years. In 2012, the actress revealed to Seventeen magazine that she has been battling with kidney dysplasia her entire life. She also had a kidney transplant the same year and ever since she has used her voice to reach out to fans and people struggling with chronic illnesses.
She wants people to listen
One follower praised Hyland on Twitter for using her knowledge and her platform to her advantage. The fan wrote: "You don't want to meet a pissed off version of me that's also in pain—not a girl to be messed with." and Hyland replied with "Preachin' to the choir sister."
The star wants advice from people struggling with the same issues as her and is bringing attention to issues with doctors and healthcare in this country. Many fans were quick to reply with their stories and helpful tips about finding the right doctor. People seem to be reacting positively to the actress' openness and relatability.
Ongoing battle
According to E! News, fans suspected she was not in good health once again when she missed the 2017 SAG Awards.
She provided fans with the information on her circumstances later, saying: ""I haven't had the greatest year. Maybe one day I'll talk about it but for now, I'd like my privacy. I will say this year has brought a lot of changes and with that, physical changes..."
Hyland has also received harsh and unnecessary backlash regarding her weight when people on Facebook and Twitter accused her of being anorexic and that showing off her thin figure promoted and even glamorized eating disorders.
The actress fought back against the haters, saying they were thin-shaming her and strongly hinted that her weight loss was related to her health problems and circumstances that were out of her control. She also took to Instagram after this incident, wearing an anti-bullying shirt.
Speaking out on social media
The actress is well known for keeping it real and voicing her opinions so this is not the first time Hyland has taken to Twitter to voice her concerns over health problems.
According to Page Six, back in December 2017, the actress slammed CVS Pharmacy for messing up her medication multiple times, saying "“Hey @CVSPharmacy when you tell a kidney transplant recipient that her medication will be ready before you close and that you will notify her when it’s ready to be picked up, F****** do it before you close. People like me can’t afford to go without medication.”
Watch Hyland on "Modern Family" on Wednesdays at 9PM on ABC.
