After perhaps actually the most dramatic season finale of "The Bachelor" ever (for once host Chris Harrison did not exaggerate on this), Arie Luyendyk Jr., the 36-year-old former race car driver, proposed to Becca Kufrin, the 27-year-old publicist from Minnesota. But if you thought there would be a happy ending in store for these two, think again.

Their ending was anything but a fairytale

Only a few weeks after his romantic proposal in Peru, Arie flew to Los Angeles to enjoy what fiance Becca thought would be a couple's weekend together. Instead of the latter, Arie told her that he changed his mind and broke off their engagement, in a very raw and painful to watch on-camera moment.

To make matters worse, the reason behind his sudden change of heart was in order to pursue his runner-up Lauren Burnham, who he is reportedly now engaged to.

I think it is safe to say audience members were not happy with the way this season played out, making Arie now one of the most controversial and disliked stars of the very popular franchise. Even fellow "Bachelor" nation stars took to social media to express their disappointment, including the majority of Arie's other ex-girlfriends on the season.

Of course, rumors and spoilers have been swirling around about this final outcome for weeks but it did not make the show any easier to watch. We cannot even imagine being Becca and having to re-watch all of this.

And to add fuel to the fire, on the March 6 episode of "The Bachelor After the Final Rose" Becca had to come face to face with her ex for the first time since he blindsided her with a break-up as America watched. But if you are worried about what will happen to Becca, don't be.

Now it's Becca's turn!

There was, in fact, a silver lining for Becca on this "After the Final Rose" special after all, Chris Harrison announced that Becca would officially be the next "Bachelorette." According to E-News, Harrison said making Becca the new lead was an "easy decision." Becca already has many loyal "Bachelor" nation fans on her side after this season.

And Harrison wasted no time by already bringing out some of the men who will be competing for Becca's heart and her final rose next season, getting audience members and fans excited about what is to come now after such a disappointing season.

Be sure to tune into the premiere of "The Bachelorette" this spring on ABC. America will be watching and hoping you find love, Becca!
