Reality TV diva Mama June is showing a return to obesity after her weight loss makeover on the first season of "From Not to Hot." June Shannon rose to fame as the brash pageant mom of "Honey Boo Boo" Alana Thompson. The once 461-lb woman was not a favorite among TLC viewers, but she's gaining support for her frank admissions of weight gain. So what's up with that?
Mama June comes clean
The celebrity of reality television admitted in an interview on YouTube that she has put on "about 10 pounds" after her shocking 300-lb loss. Fans were surprised as candor isn't a strong suit with Mama June.
She's lied about weight loss and how she achieved it before. Shannon denied having bariatric surgery prior to "From Not to Hot" and may have fudged the numbers on her weight. She's been cagey about naming Honey Boo Boo's and Pumpkin Shannon's baby daddies, and she re-hooked up with Mark McDaniel, a convicted child molester.

Folks see a new Mama June
There's a lot of debate on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram over the "From Not to Hot" star's makeover. Some faulted her for "cheating" with gastric bypass surgery. They didn't like the way Honey Boo Boo's mama lied about her weight to get plastic surgery, including a tummy tuck, breast implants and skin removal. Few people believe her claims that she weighs 138 pounds and wears a size 4 dress.
Even her 10-lb weight gain might be minimized. However, they love the new, more truthful Mama June.
Maybe Mama June isn't so bad after all?
YouTube commenters rallied to praise the celebrity of "From Not to Hot" for shedding obesity and also for having the chutzpah to admit that some is returning. Her honesty made friends of critics who acknowledged how hard it is to keep pounds off.
Some sided with her in saying that a small amount of weight gain after a significant loss is common. They affirmed that 10 pounds isn't all that much, but they still disapprove of Honey Boo Boo's plus-size. And, some mentioned concerns related to weight gain after gastric bypass surgery.
HBB's mom goes AWOL on gastric bypass diet?
More than once, June Shannon has been seen busting her weight loss surgery diet. Commenters disagreed that 10 pounds was a small amount to regain if you've had bariatric surgery. Like Lee Sutton of "My 600-lb Life," Mama June doesn't seem to get that her stomach is now 80% smaller. Dr. Now, of TLC, told Sutton that he would have gained 100 pounds in two months had it not been for his stomach rejecting the extra food. If Dr. Now was talking to the "Honey Boo Boo" celebrities he'd warn June to beware of overeating, and that weight gain is dangerous after surgery.
