"Game of Thrones" Season 8 is still a long way ahead of us, but that doesn't stop the fans from theorizing about what's going to happen to their beloved characters. And speaking of beloved characters, Tyrion Lannister often first comes to mind despite the fact that he didn't really do much in the last two seasons, other than advising Daenerys and cracking jokes. That's why there's no doubt that we are going to see a lot more of Tyrion in the last season.
However, we are not here to discuss the things Tyrion will do in Season 8, but rather what he could lose.
So bear with us as we delve further into this brand new "Game of Thrones" theory.
What will happen to Tyrion?
According to YouTube channel Alt Shift X, there's a strong chance that Tyrion will lose his tongue at some point in the future. Even though the theory seems like a little bit of a stretch, both the "Game of Thrones" TV show and the "A Song of Ice and Fire" book series provide some evidence that supports this claim.
Despite the fact that Tyrion delivers some of the best lines in both the books and the TV show, that big mouth of his has often gotten him into trouble. So it comes as no surprise that many people have threatened to cut Tyrion's tongue out. Cersei, Joffrey, even Jorah, just to name a few.
Alt Shift X also points out that Tyrion losing his tongue would fit quite well with the character arcs of his siblings. Jaime, defined by his ability to fight, loses his sword hand, and Cersei with her beauty and pride that have been stripped from her in the walk of shame.
Who will cut Tyrion's tongue?
The obvious candidate is Cersei because, in the books, she is weirdly obsessed with cutting out Tyrion's tongue.
So much so that she mentions it in half of her chapters. This comes as no surprise since she blames him for Joffrey's death and she also thinks Tyrion is the Valonqar from Maggie the Frog prophecy. But then again, why the tongue? Well, Alt Shift X points out that Cersei would do that because she hates how Tyrion publicly mocks her and undermines her power.
Another candidate is Euron who is quickly becoming the next big villain, though not so much in the show as he is in the books. Especially after "The Forsaken" chapter from "The Winds of Winter." And if we know anything about Euron it is that he cuts out a lot of tongues.
Our opinion
Although it seems plausible given all the hints, we don't think Tyrion will lose his tongue in the "Game of Thrones" TV show, at least, since there are only six episodes left. As for the books, George R. R. Martin could definitely pull this one out. So Tyrion might just lose the thing he loves the most, so he could redefine himself, the same way Jaime had to when he lost his hand. Or Bran when he broke his back.
Now, whether you think this could happen or not, you should definitely check out Alt Shift X's video down below for more details about this theory.
