The latest updates and spoilers for "X-Men: dark phoenix" reveal a Major Character death in the storyline. An anonymous source from The Hashtag Show claim that Jean Grey will kill one of the X-Men after failing to control the power of the Phoenix Force and the incident will fuel her descent towards a dark path.
Cast Alexandra Shipp teased the upcoming sequel will stay true to the "Dark Phoenix" comic book storyline and promised the X-Men fans that this will be the greatest film in the whole franchise.
Who will die in the movie?
According to the anonymous source, Jean Grey tries to tap into her newfound ability in order to channel and control its potential.
However, Jean's new power overwhelms her and she accidentally impales one of the major characters in the movie. The source revealed four names that Jean could have killed in the scene and they are Professor Xavier, Magneto, Mystique, and Beast.
These four characters are the founding members of the team in "X-Men: First Class" and they have played prominent roles during the events of "Day of Future Past" and "Apocalypse." Professor X was killed by the Phoenix-powered Jean Grey during "X-Men: The Last Stand" before they reset the timeline.
Magneto in the sequel will be the leader of a new mutant group that worships him as a malevolent messiah. Cast member Michael Fassbender requested the production team to include cult-like designs for his costume in order to envoke that feeling to his character.
Mystique and Beast will continue to train and guide the students in the movie as they face their greatest challenge yet. Jean's new powers emerge during the teams fight with the ancient mutant, Apocalypse, and Fox's idea for the sequel is to push her completely over the edge in order to unleash that power at the cost of everyone's safety.
The mutant team will have no choice but to stop their beloved friend by any means necessary to save the world from her rampage and prevent another conflict between the mutants and humans.
Staying true to the source
Alexandra Shipp shared her thoughts about the sequel's plot as she told Syfywire in a previous interview that director Simon Kinsberg will lead the franchise to new heights when he helms the movie.
"I can't say too much but what I can say is that, as a fan of the X-Men franchise, I know a lot of people are going to be happy with how accurate this one is," Shipp said. "Now that [Kinsberg] has a little more control, he is able to really allow this X-Men world to flourish."
The new movie is undoubtedly pivotal to Fox as the sequel's success will lead to Fox making more future titles for the franchise.
