It's no secret that the political divide in the United States is at an all time high following the election of Donald Trump. After former First Lady Michelle Obama commented on the current state of the Republican Party, right-wing firebrand Tomi Lahren was quick to go on the attack.

Tomi on Michelle

The 2016 presidential election will go down as one of the most intense and controversial in American history. Following the announcement that Donald Trump was going to be running for president, the game in Washington changed for the foreseeable future.

Trump's candidacy set off a political bomb and only widened the divide between those on the left and right. Following Trump's upset election win over Hillary Clinton, Barack and Michelle Obama have stayed mostly out of the spotlight, taking a break from politics after eight years in the White House. Despite this, the former first lady appeared at the Pennsylvania Conference for Women earlier this week and was critical of the Republican Party for having demographics that consist of mostly white men. Michelle Obama's comments quickly came under fire from conservatives and the right-wing media, which prompted recently hired Fox News contributor Tomi Lahren to lash out during a October 5 tweet.

Taking to her Twitter account to promote a Fox News article on the topic, Tomi Lahren attacked Michelle Obama for accusing the Republican Party of being dominated by white men.

"Instead of mouthing off about what the GOP is, tell us what your party stands for," Lahren tweeted, before adding, "Anti-white men is your platform?"

Michelle Obama's comments were direct and to the point, as she claimed many Americans were pushed away from the GOP because of the party's lack of diversity. "There’s a difference in color, in the tone.

Because one side: all men, all white. On the other side: some women, some people of color," she said.

Twitter reacts

Not long after sending out her tweet, Tomi Lahren was met with heavy backlash from Democrats and liberals. "Instead of mouthing off to twitter at large, @TomiLahren , have the intestinal fortitude & maturity to tweet it directly to @MichelleObama," one tweet read.

"Says the little girl who makes a living criticizing liberals," a Twitter user added. "You twist things so elegantly, but you miss the point. EVERY TIME," an additional post noted. "you spend less time on actual policy and more on cultural grievance nonsense than anyone.

you're the wrong person for this message," yet another tweet read.

"I know good and damn well First Lady Obama didn't send for you, so sit your happy ass all the way down.

Thank you," a social media user pointed out. "Michelle is more a woman than you or that gold digging ex hooker, nude model will ever be," another tweet stated. As the negative reaction continued, it showed that the divide between the left and right wasn't going to end anytime soon.
