“Game of Thrones” Season 8 filming has officially begun. Actress Emilia Clarke, who plays the character of Daenerys Targaryen, posted an image of the cast and crew members of the show at the set last month. They are apparently in Spain right now, carrying out the production. According to an Indian Express report, actor Liam Cunningham, who plays the character of Ser Davos on the show, has now revealed more details about the next installment. He said that the shooting for “Game of Thrones” Season 8 will wrap up in the first half of 2018 itself. In other words, post-production for the upcoming season will begin after summer 2018.
Everything you need to know
"Game of Thrones" Season 7 recently came to an end with a lot of cliffhangers. The TV series premiered in July and roughly seven weeks later, the season had ended. Furthermore, the fact that the show’s fans now have to wait for over two years for its next season, already makes the situation much more difficult. The seventh season only consisted of seven episodes. Cunningham said that the show is going to consist of episodes that are going to be much longer during Season 8 than they have been in the past.
According to a report by TV Guide, Cunningham further stated that these each of these episodes will consist of major climaxes. He revealed that they will be filming till summer.
Up till the last season, “Game of Thrones” only consisted of a maximum of ten episodes. These episodes were slightly less than an hour. But this time around, even though there are a fewer number of episodes, they will be much longer. Apart from this, it has also been rumored that David Benioff and D. B. Weiss will be directing the final episode of Season 8.
A group of other directors, including Miguel Sapochnik and David Nutter, are also making a comeback.
Spin-offs of the show
Novel writer George R. R. Martin revealed last month that the “Game of Thrones” runners have decided to create about five spin-offs to the show. The spin-offs will revolve around the story that existed between and during Robert Baratheon’s rebellion.
This will include the involvement of the Stark, Lannister, and Targaryen families extensively. The actors and story-line to the show haven't however, been finalized yet. It could take a while for those new incarnations from Martin's mind finally come to the screen and it may not even take place until "Game of Thrones" Season 8 has concluded its run.
