Gal Gadot's road to worldwide superstardom wasn't easy. The reluctant Miss Israel beauty queen turned actress was a law student before dabbling in the creative arts. In various interviews promoting "Wonder Woman," the 32-year old recalled how many rejections she had before landing such a pivotal role in her career. She once auditioned for James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy" in the role of Nebula, which eventually went to Scottish actress Karen Gillan.
Gadot also apparently auditioned for "Mad Max: Fury Road," but that role went to a bigger Hollywood name: Charlize Theron.
Gal Gadot opens up about her past auditions
Gal Gadot's biggest role before joining the DCEU as Wonder Woman is Gisele Yashar in the "Fast & Furious" franchise. She played the role for six years, spanning four installments of the box office hit franchise. In 2016, she was reintroduced to moviegoers as Wonder Woman in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," a polarizing film that divided fans of the comic book series and the film. She finally took on the lead in this year's "Wonder Woman," which earned over $800 million in the worldwide box office.
But before all this success, the actress actually auditioned for "Mad Max: Fury Road," Mashable reported. According to Gadot, she lost the part because she wasn't famous enough to land it just yet. She explained, "“I had so many almosts for big, great things, but I was never big enough of a name...They always need someone with 'the big name.'" The actress also shared that she was told multiple times that if she landed a role, it would definitely change her life. That turn finally came with "Wonder Woman," which is now touted as the best film this year.
