Earlier, it was reported that the DC team Titans was going to become a TV series. The roles for Dick Grayson, Starfire, and Raven had been filled quickly. Brenton Thwaites, Anna Diop, and Teagan Croft have been tapped for the roles.

Now, according to Deadline, Alan Ritchson and Minka Kelly are joining the production. Ritchson (of Smallville and Ninja Turtles fame) is playing Hank Hall, aka Hawk. Kelly (Friday Night Lights), meanwhile, is playing Dove. Hawk And Dove are two heroes who are inseparable in the comic books.

Warner Bros. TV will be showing the series in 2018.

It will be part of their new DC-owned digital service that aims to rival providers like Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Go.

A Contrast of Styles

Those who are not familiar with the hero couple should know that they are a contrast of styles. Hank Hall, aka Hawk, is the muscle of the group; not only because he is male, but his fighting style is aggressive as he is also more offensive. Dawn Granger aka Dove, meanwhile, is the pacifist of the couple. Where Hawk is the muscle, Dove is the shield. She is more strategic, always on the defense, and is more likely the brains of the hero pair.

It was once pictured that the series would have a different Dove. Rebecca Rittenhouse (The Mindy Project) was considered for the role of Dove.

The roles played by Alan Ritchson and Minka Kelly would start out as recurring ones in the Titans TV series, with a regular appearance in the works. Audience reaction to the duo will be the basis for plans of a Hawk and Dove spinoff to push through.

Behind the Scenes

The Titans TV series showrunners are DC Entertainment’s Greg Berlanti and Geoff Johns and Akiva Goldsman.

The team has experienced different incarnations. Titans in the comic books follow the exploits of Robin aka Dick Grayson who becomes the leader of a group of young heroes. Starfire, Raven, and Beast Boy joins him, as well as Cyborg.

The roles have been filled, so far, but there are still some left to be cast. The role of Beast Boy still doesn’t have an actor.

There is also the role of Cyborg, although he is already a member of the Justice League on the big screen.

This should also be a fresh change of scenery for Alan Ritchson and Minka Kelly. Ritchson had already been connected to DC with Smallville; Kelly, meanwhile, is a first-timer, technically. Her past roles in Friday Night Lights, Parenthood, and The Path, isn’t really as heroic as her portrayal of Dove.
