The recent Force Friday II unveiled a lot of toy merchandise of the coming “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” Aside from purchasing, some event goers are actually looking for some hints and leaks that these toys have in connection with the upcoming “Episode 8.”
Of course, they are not left brokenhearted as there is a six-inch figure of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Force Ghost on display that is part of Disney and Hasbro’s Star Wars Black Series. With that, some are looking forward to seeing the Jedi master’s spirit in the movie.
The image’s real inspiration
With the coming of A-Wings, AT-M6s, and TIE Silencers in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” it is now expected that the franchise’s eighth episode will be featuring classic elements from the original trilogy.
And with the emergence of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Force Ghost figure, there are now strong assumptions that his spirit is going to be seen in the upcoming movie.
However, Hasbro claimed that the toy’s image is based on the Jedi master’s character in “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi,” and not from the latest installment. The eighth film’s director Rian Johnson even insisted that the Force Friday II toys are not containing any movie spoilers.
The appearance of a Force Ghost
Although there is no confirmation yet about the Force ghosts appearance in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” there are strong assumptions that fans are going to witness the appearance of these spirits.
In a report made by Screen Rant, it revealed that after a Jedi’s death, it could become a ghost as seen in “The Empire Strikes Back.” To recall, when Anakin Skywalker died, he joined Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda as spirits on Endor.
However, in the prequel movies, Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson) only discovered the ability to return as a spirit in “The Phantom Menace” after his death and revealed it to Yoda in “Revenge of the Sith.” The Grand Master of the Jedi Order and Obi-Wan then learned to retain their physical appearances followed by Anakin after his redemption.
So, if ever there will be a Force Ghost in “Episode 8,” it could only be between Yoda, Obi-Wan, and Anakin.
Evidence of the ghost’s possible appearance
The rumors of the Force Ghost’s appearance started when Rey’s (Daisy Ridley) Force back vision revealed the voices of Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
It was later followed by “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” trailer where the two Jedi Masters’ voices were heard again whispering.
The rumors even became strong when Obi-Wan’s toy figure was seen in Force Friday. In fact, according to Daily Express, the toy has been revealed along with other characters from “Episode 8” like Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis).
Also, its box has no reference to the film, “Return of the Jedi,” and has the label “Force Spirit.” Its description even suggested that it could be Obi-Wan’s Force Ghost. “Even after his untimely demise, Obi-Wan Kenobi remains a mentor to those strong with the Force” it read.
