Selena Gomez is rumored to become one of the judges in the upcoming reboot of “American Idol,” according to Hollywood Life. If she signs on, she will join her co-artist Katy Perry in the new season of the hit reality singing competition.
Sources told the entertainment website that producers believe Gomez “would be great” to be part of the judging panel because of her younger fan base. They also noted her influence on social media as a key factor in giving her the coveted spot.
Show producers are reportedly drafting a proposal which they hope she would accept by mid-October, Hollywood Life added.
She has previously appeared on another reality show, “The Voice” as one of the mentors under Gwen Stefani’s team. It was during its ninth season in 2015.
Kim Kardashian as ‘American Idol’ judge?
Socialite Kim Kardashian is not joining the upcoming season of “American Idol” as one of the judges, Gossip Cop reported. The entertainment gossip website shut down the rumors that said host Ryan Seacrest personally suggested Kardashian be part of the judging panel.
Gossip Cop cited a blog named “Naughty Gossip” that wrote about Seacrest thinking that the show should hire Kardashian. The blog said, “Promotion and social media are now just as important to being a successful artist as singing, and no one knows the world better than [Seacrest’s] pal Kim.”
The socialite is certainly not part of the music industry because she is not a professional singer.
However, the cited blog contended that she can be like Heidi Klum, a supermodel who has been part of the judging panel of “America’s Got Talent.”
Gossip Cop is shutting down the rumors saying Seacrest’s choice for Kardashian “will be a game-changer” for the show. Even the female celebrity has not issued a statement as of press time.
Production challenges
“American Idol” is currently encountering major issues in the taping of its episodes for the auditions with the judges, AOL reported. The hit reality singing competition is having its final bus auditions on Thursday. Within just a few weeks, auditions with the judges are going to be taped just in time as it airs on nationwide television.
However, AOL revealed that only Katy Perry has been signed on as part of the judging panel. She is supposed to join fellow musical artists such as Keith Urban, Charlie Puth, and Lionel Richie.
Perry is also rumored to receive a salary of $25 million, apparently getting a bigger amount than the rest of the talents, AOL added. Furthermore, even the stint of its long-time host Ryan Seacrest is derailed because of the songstress’ salary demand.
