The second season of "Riverdale" is set to kick off on Oct. 11th with the pilot episode expected to pick up from the fateful shooting incident at Pop’s Chock’lit Shoppe. Season 1 ended in dramatic fashion with Fred Andrews (Luke Perry) inadvertently getting shot for trying to stop a gunman.

Archie (KJ Apa) witnessed the shooting and the whole ordeal is expected to make a key change in the teenager’s life. Entertainment Weekly released some images of Archie and Fred covered in blood, seeking medical help.

New twist set

Archie and Fred are likely to make it in time, though it remains to be seen how long it will take for Fred to recover from the unfortunate event.

The red-head teen is expected to be severely affected by the whole thing, related to the alleged big changes Archie will be undergoing in season 2.

According to showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the fate of Fred Andrews will be revealed by the end of episode one. So far, there has been no indication of Luke Perry exiting the TV show. Unofficially, there is a chance that Fred could end up falling into a coma – meaning he may not be seen that much in the following episodes.

What changes will Archie undergo?

From a jolly and simple teenager, Archie will likely try and get to the bottom of the whole ordeal. He has shown his knack for doing some investigative work in season 1 when they tried to get more answers on the Jason Blossom (Trevor Stines) murder.

The change could affect the brewing romance between Archie and Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes). Hermione Lodge (Marisol Nichols) was visibly against it and the arrival of Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos) could factor in as well.

Was it an accident or not?

Looking back at that incident, the gunman seemed more interested in robbing Pop’s Diner than inflicting harm on Fred (or Archie).

The possibility of a setup is in the air and here is where the hands of Hermione and/or Hiram have been inserted.

Aside from the Archie and Veronica romance, the business ties that Fred and the Lodges were also a conflict towards the end of the first season. Seeing how Hiram has been molded into an evil character, the gunman may have been hired to actually take down Fred.

Most of that should be straightened out by the first episode of "Riverdale" season 2. The angle involving Archie and Fred Andrews is just one of many plots expected to shroud the show. There is also the case of Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) who seems to be more devious this time around, the alleged revelation of “Black Betty” (Lili Reinhart) and the curious case of Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) and his dad, FP (Skeet Ulrich).
