Some people aren’t lucky to see two million dollars in their entire lifetime, but Johnny Depp has no problem blowing through that amount per month!

Johnny Depp’s well-known roles

Known for his rather eccentric characters and brooding, quirky style, Johnny Depp established himself more than 20 years ago on the silver screen. Chosen by director Tim Burton as the star of most of his movies, Depp achieved success with roles in movies like “Edward Scissorhands”, “Sleepy Hollow”, “Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street”, “From Hell”, “The Ninth Gate”, “Secret Window” and the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise.

Mismanaging finances?

Many celebrities are known for their exorbitant spending and extravagant lifestyles and Depp seems to take the cake. His monthly expenses include: $30,000 on special wine, $150,000 on personal and family security, $200,000 for a private jet and $300,000 on staff including 40 full-time employees. A lover of property development, Depp treated himself in 2004 to a chain of Bahamian islands for $3.6 million. Not too long after, he furnished 14 homes in France at a cost of $75 million. Then, in 2005, he gave one of his deceased friends, a lavish and unusual send off. Depp spent $3 million to blast the ashes of Hunter S.

Thompson, from a customized cannon.

Nothing good lasts forever and that was just the start of Depp’s financial tumble. Earlier this year, he announced he was suing his management company, The Management Group (TMG) for $25 million for mismanaging his finances and, among other things, ‘unjust enrichment, negligence, fraud and breach of fiduciary duty’. The company counterclaimed, saying Depp was really to blame, since he spent wildly and refused to listen to the suggestion of his advisers to curb his ‘selfish, reckless and irresponsible lifestyle.’ This lawsuit is expected to cause even more money worries for Depp and he has been forced to sell many of his prized properties to cope with mounting legal bills.

One of these includes his Kentucky horse farm worth nearly $20 million.

Where did it all go wrong? For a while, it seemed that Depp had the perfect life and had finally become America’s cool sweetheart. Then, however, he suddenly split with his long time partner and mother of his two children, Vanessa Paradis in June 2012. Not too long after, he met and married actress Amber Heard and the rest, is history. She accused him of being violent toward her and slapping her around. He denied it but still ended up divorced in 2016 and $7 million lighter.

His is a true rags to riches story. Depp started off as a high school dropout and delinquent, and then became a telemarketer selling pens. His break came when fellow Hollywood actor Nicholas Cage suggested that he try being an actor.

Depp then auditioned for Wes Craven’s “A Nightmare on Elm Street” in 1984 and got the role. He is now paid nearly $20 million per movie and has been quoted as saying “money doesn’t change anyone, it reveals them.”

When it comes to managing money it seems like Johnny Depp has really gotten himself into a pickle. His jury trial is tentatively set for January 2018.
