Jennifer Lopez along with her current boyfriend, Alex Rodriguez, and her former husband, Marc Anthony is going to help those affected by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. The island was hit by the hurricane on Wednesday causing massive destruction and giving birth to a humanitarian crisis. Millions of the island's residents are without water, food and fuel and according to "CNN", around 97% of Puerto Rico's citizens are without power.
Lopez teams up with Governor of New York
Jennifer Lopez posted a video on her Instagram account, where she told the fans that she has got family in Puerto Rico and will donate $1 million for relief work.
The Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo did a press conference on Sunday, promising state's financial assistance for the affected island. Lopez, who was also present at the press briefing urged people to help the fellow American citizens. The 48-year-old singer is a co-chair for Empire State Relief and Recovery Effort for Puerto Rico, an initiative of Governor Cuomo. She thanked the Governor for his support in this tough time, saying that it meant a lot to her and the Puerto Ricans to receive supplies and resources from the people of New York. She further told the press that she and her beau, Alex Rodriguez are making use of all their means and connections in the show business and sports to get maximum support for the relief services.
Lopez's relief initiative with ex-husband Marc Anthony
On the other hand, Jennifer's ex, Marc Anthony shared a video on his Instagram account to urge people "to help Puerto Rico rebuild and come out of these storms stronger than ever." He along with Lopez has created "Somos Una Voz," which means "we are one voice." Their initiative has managed to gain the support of a number of celebrities who are collaborating with each other to provide food, medicine, shelter, power and means of communications to the region that has been hit by the recent storms.
Celebrities who have joined this initiative include Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Pitbull, Jada Pinkett Smith, Ricky Martin, Vin Diesel, Narciso Rodriguez among many others. Lopez was married to Marc Anthony for ten years, from 2004 to 2014 and the former couple share two children. Jennifer Lopez is always at the forefront of charity work and philanthropy. Not long ago, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez announced that they will be donating $25,000 each for the victims of Hurricane Harvey.
