Two of the most controversial fighters in “Game of Thrones” are the Clegane brothers from the House of Clegane. Gregor, (played by Aussie actor Conan Stevens in Season 1, by Welsh actor Ian Whyte in Season 2 and Icelandic actor Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson in Season 3 onwards), is best known as The Mountain. He is the most feared warrior in the entire Westeros for being ruthless, and his incredible speed is impressive despite his massive and heavy size. He started the bad blood with his younger brother, Sandor better known as The Hound, (played by Scottish actor Rory McCann) since they were kids.
Now, a recent theory suggests that Season 8 might showcase the highly-anticipated battle between them and the possible cause of their rift may not be because of a toy that Sandor played with when he was a kid.
The battle of the Clegane brothers
During “Game of Thrones” Season 7 finale, we saw the Clegane brothers finally met face to face for the first time in years after Sandor ran off from King’s Landing. When they met in Dragonpit with the fancy folks, The Hound talked to his revived from the dead brother Gregor (thanks to Qyburn). "You know who’s coming for you. You’ve always known,” he told The Mountain. We know that the younger Clegane can see visions in the fire. According to a fan-made theory, it’s possible that this is the reason that older Clegane shoved him off into a burning brazier when they were kids.
The real cause of their bad blood
According to The Hound’s accounts, he played with a toy that his older brother Gregor owned when they were kids without permission, and The Mountain thought that he stole it from him. As a result, Gregor, who’s known for his terrifying rage, pushed him into the flames that burned half of his face.
Their father, who protected The Mountain, told everyone that The Hound‘s bedding caught fire. However, a “Game of Thrones” fan recently took to Reddit and suggested that the real reason for the brothers’ bad blood was because Sandor saw in the flames that there would be a Cleganebowl.
According to Reddit user Askingforafriendta, when The Hound told The Mountain that he will be the one to kill him, Gregor was furious and tried to kill him by shoving him off into the fire in an attempt to stop Sandor’s vision from happening.
This “Game of Thrones” theory might have disagreed with Sandor’s account about his rift with Gregor, but it does make a lot of sense. His monstrously huge brother is known for his temper and rage. It is not impossible that The Mountain got enraged when The Hound told him what he saw in the flames.
What do you think about The Mountain and The Hound’s real cause of their bad blood? Are you thrilled to see them fight against each other in "Game of Thrones" Season 8?
