“Game of Thrones” actor Kit Harington has announced his engagement to his girlfriend of five years, Rose Leslie. She was once a part of the cast of “Game of Thrones” and played the role of his on-screen lover Ygritte in the famed HBO series. The couple has been dating since 2012. They first met on the set of "Game of Thrones" which holds the status of being a highly popular American fantasy drama television series and has been growing increasingly popular over the years.
A traditional announcement
Fans were delighted to learn news of the couple’s engagement which was announced to the public via The Times Newspaper’s forthcoming marriages section.
This, many say is quite similar to the announcement made by Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter who also used The Times Newspaper to announce their engagement. Harington and Leslie’s announcement stated: ‘The engagement is announced between Kit, the younger son of David and Deborah Harington of Worcestershire, and Rose, middle daughter of Sebastian and Candy Leslie of Aberdeenshire.’
Harington and Leslie’s on-screen romance
Harington who plays the Bastard Son has been a part of the famed series since 2011 when it premiered. Leslie, on the other hand, was on “Game of Thrones” from 2012 to 2014. She played the role of the rebellious and very headstrong ‘wildling’ that he Fell In Love with. Their last scene together was at the end of season four when Jon Snow dragged Ygritte’s lifeless body through a snow-covered forest and then placed it in a funeral pyre.
In the episode, prior to that, she died in his arms.
The couple’s off-screen romance
Harington and Leslie have been described as ‘very, very happy.’ The couple, both 30, have been in an on and off relationship since 2012- the year when she joined the series. When asked when he knew he was in love Harington revealed that he fell in love with his soon-to-be wife in Iceland while shooting was being done for the second season.
News of the couple’s relationship was confirmed in January 2016 when they moved in together in their East Anglia medieval mansion valued at £1.75m. This mansion is located on eight acres of property and has seven bedrooms. After they denied that they were engaged in July last week they announced to their family and friends of their intentions to wed.
According to an unnamed source, the actor proposed over a romantic candlelight dinner. However, a date for the nuptials has not been announced.
“Game of Thrones” fans the world over will surely agree that this will be a white wedding compared to the weddings they would have seen on the series. While they eagerly await more wedding tidbits from this couple they can look forward to seeing Leslie on “Downturn Abbey” where she has found fame in her role there as a housemaid. Harington will continue his role as Jon Snow on “Game of Thrones” as the King in the North. It has been revealed that this American fantasy drama television series will enjoy its final season in 2018.
