"Stranger Things" Season 2 is right around the corner and last year's breakout web series from Netflix promises to bring back all that is weird about the peculiar town of Hawkins. While some fans are still seeking #JusticeforBarb, the show promises to honor her memory after her unjustifiable death at the hands of the Demogorgon. Despite being on the first season for a very short period of time, Shannon Purser's Barb resonated so well with audiences because she was the "outsider" of the squad. In a recent interview with Deadline, the 20-year old actress explained that it was the fact that Barb was "an outcast and awkward" that made audiences relate to her so well.
The actress added that it was "fascinating" to see the "fondness" that audiences had with her short-lived character. But viewers aren't the only ones who are reeling over her sudden death. Natalia Dyer, who plays Nancy on the show, recently opened up about how her relationship with Barb permeates on the show even after her death.
Natalia Dyer reminisces about Barb
Natalia Dyer is set to return as Nancy in "Stranger Things" season 2, presumably to continue on her story arc with Charlie Heaton's Jonathan and Joe Keery's Steve. Last season, viewers saw Nancy get together with Steve despite her seeming attraction to Jonathan. Steve, however, proved that he was more than just a pretty face, battling the Demogorgon alongside Nancy and Jonathan.
In a recent video clip posted on the "Stranger Things" Twitter account, Dyer reminisced about her character's relationship with Barb. She mused, "[Barb] wasn't in it physically for a very long time, but her character persists throughout the whole series for Nancy very much." The pair were friends, and Barb's absence and death made a mark in Nancy's life.
The actress added that it was "lovely" working with Shannon Purser.
Actress wants to explore Barb and Nancy's story
The aftermath of Barb's death brought about a new awareness to the people of Hawkins, Indiana. The Byers family, the Wheeler family, Chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour), and the rest of the A.V. Club were in for a revelation when uncovered the secrets of the Hawkins Lab.
In "Stranger Things" season 2, viewers should expect to see more of the back story of the mysterious lab. But for Nancy Dyer, she wants to see more of Barb and Nancy's untold story. She said, "It's almost like I want to go back and live through the Barb and Nancy moments that we never get to see. The weight of that relationship and what that really meant, 'cause all you really see is the aftermath of her being gone...I do miss Barb."
"Stranger Things" season 2 premieres on October 27.
