It's that time again for the Mtv Video Music Awards. The VMA's are set to air on MTV on Sunday, August 27 ay 8/7c. The always entertaining annual event will be full of awards, live performances, fashion, and likely many surprises. The first-ever VMA's took place all the way back in 1984. This year, the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards is taking place at the Forum in Inglewood, CA.

The host

This year's hosting duties go to Katy Perry. The 32-year-old musician has been nominated a number of times through the years, but this will be the first time she is hosting.

Katy Perry will also be performing on tonight's show. Perry is nominated tonight for Best Collaboration for the song "Feels" by Calvin Harris. Perry is featured in the song along with Pharrell Williams and Big Sean. Other songs up for the award are "We Don't Talk Anymore," "Broccoli," "Wild Thoughts," "Closer," and "I Don't Wanna Live Forever." Perry also received a nomination for "Best Pop Video" for her tune "Chained to the Rhythm." The other songs up for the award are "Shape of You," "Down," "Sign of the Times," "Malibu," and "Treat You Better."

The nominees

A new award this year is going to be given for Best Fight Against The System. Videos in this new category will be ones that make strong political statements.

The videos nominated in this category are "Scars to Your Beautiful," "Light," "Surefire," "Immigrants," "Black SpiderMan," and "Stand Up/Stand N Rock."

There are 16 different categories that moonmen will be given out for. Nominees for Best New Artist include Julia Michaels, Khalid, Kodak Black, Noah Cyrus, SZA, and Young M.A..

Musicians nominated for Artist Of The Year are Ariana Grande, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Kendrick Lamar, Lorde, and The Weeknd.

In the category of Video Of The Year, the five nominations went to "24K Magic" by Bruno Mars, "Scars to Your Beautiful" by Alessia Cara, "Wild Thoughts" from DJ Khaled, "HUMBLE." by Kendrick Lamar, and "Reminder" by The Weeknd.

In the Best Rock category, Coldplay received a nomination for their video "A Head Full of Dreams." Green Day is up with their video for "Bang Bang." Fall out Boy received a nomination for "Young and Menace," Foo Fighters for "Run," and Twenty One Pilots for "Heavydirtysoul."
