Miley Cyrus practically did a 180-degree turn in reputation when she got back together and eventually married Liam Hemsworth. Whether or not it was her relationship that made her do an about-face, it seems that the singer is finally happier. She also seems to be past her controversial stunts, too, and even went so far as to apologize to her dad jokingly, Billy Ray Cyrus, regarding her much talked-about 2013 Mtv Video Music Awards performance in 2013 with Robin Thicke.
'Blurred Lines' throwback
Just before Sunday’s VMAs, the 24-year-old singer shared a throwback meme via Twitter showing herself, scantily clad and bent over Thicke as they performed his song, “Blurred Lines.” Her dad was pasted in the background with a confused/disappointed look on his face.
The meme was captioned, “Sorry Dad.... I'll be good tonight I promise.”
During the said performance, Cyrus donned a skin-tight, flesh-toned bodysuit and a pair of power burns, as well as foam fingers, which she made sexualized gestures with on stage. This shocking performance officially had her stepping out of her Disney skin and stepping into a more mature market.
It is particularly interesting how the night will go, as the former "Hannah Montana" star is expected to perform once again, at this year’s VMAs.Her performance, however, is expected to be tamer than the last, seeing as she redid her image for her new studio release.
'Younger Now' album release and rebranding
Cyrus’s upcoming album, “Younger Now,” is said to be released later in the year, and Cyrus pointed out that she’s moved on from the “wild girl” persona that people came to expect of her.
In fact, the expectation is the very reason why she moved on from that image.
In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she shared that she no longer wanted to show up to her photo shoots to be the person who shows her breasts and sticks her tongue out of for the camera. She shared that even though such antics started as an act of defiance against the world’s expectations of women, she eventually came back to the point of feeling that she’s being sexualized.
Currently in the process of “evolving,” Cyrus stated that she has given up marijuana and alcohol, even stating that she’s completely clean. The best part: it was something she said she just wanted to do.
Miley Cyrus is set to perform her latest single, “Younger Now” at the VMAs on Sunday, August 27. This time, likely with a lot less twerking and without oversexualized statements that audience came to expect of her.
