August 31t marks the 20Th Anniversary of Princess Diana's death. The anniversary has seen a wave of nostalgia being thrown around recently with TV documentaries and programs.
Recently British broadcaster channel 4 came under fire for releasing a documentary of hidden tapes that were filmed by Diana’s voice coach, Peter Settelen. The videos were recorded during a series of meetings at Kensington Palace, the tapes were made to improve her public speaking techniques.
These tapes saw the princess reveal much about her marriage to Prince Charles and the scandals surrounding their doomed marriage.
Many saw the documentary in poor taste for exploiting her vulnerability, it was viewed as scrapping the barrel to gain viewers. The channel was condemned for going ahead with the exploitable nature of the featured content, something the channel defended as being in the public’s interest.
Scandal in the palace
The public has always been fascinated with the Royal Family and during the late 80’s and early 90’s, scandals occurred amongst the younger members. This rocketed the most famous family in the world back into the limelight, the paparazzi hounding the princess constantly. They treated her like a celebrity by breaking protocol repeatedly trying to get the next big story. These moments are shown during the documentary to the lengths the media went to intrude her privacy.
Diana spoke at great length at her battle with bulimia as well as feeling unaccepted into the Royal Family, in particular by the queen herself. After her death, countless theories arose with many believing the queen had hired a hit man to kill Diana and to this day people believe Diana was murdered. This is due to the nature of the princess, speaking out on the behavior of Prince Charles and his affair with Camilla-Parker Bowles.
Diana recalls when she confronted the prince of his affair declaring, “I remember saying to my husband, ‘Why? Why is this lady around? And he said, ‘Well, I refuse to be the only Prince of Wales that never had a mistress.’
