Hurricane Harvey caused a lot of damage in Houston and also claimed lives that is why comedian Kevin Hart took the initiative to donate money to the victims as well as urge other celebrities to help. Hart took to his Instagram over the weekend to call on a slew of celebrities like Beyonce and Jay Z to start donating and help those affected by the hurricane.

Hart coined his effort as “Hurricane Harvey Relief Challenge.” On his Instagram video, he said that the hurricane’s devastating effects are serious and doing a challenge would be of great help.

A lot of challenges on the internet have raised funds for many issues in the past, and Hart used the same viral way in an attempt to help those in Houston.

Hart donates $50,000

He tagged Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Beyonce, Jay Z, Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Jerry Seinfeld, Justin Timberlake, and Steve Harvey. The Los Angeles Times reported that he initially donated $25,000 and asked those he tagged to donate the same amount or more. He also instructed them to tag other celebrities for the “Hurricane Harvey Relief Challenge.”

He took to Twitter to give an update regarding the donation and said that he decided to increase it to $50,000. Hart said his heart hurts over the news reports regarding what happened in Houston after the hurricane made a landfall in the area.

He concluded his series of tweets saying that his prayers are with Houston and asked the people from the area to stay strong and keep their faith.

Other stars who donated

Drake already made efforts to extend his help for the Houston victims, but it is unclear how much he shelled out. He said in a statement that he and DJ Future the Prince have contacted local relief groups to know more about how they can help.

He also encouraged everyone to do what they can to help the people of Texas.

According to ABS News, country star Chris Young donated $100,000. He took to YouTube to say that his home in Texas was destroyed and he is very concerned about the situation his friends and family are in.

Singer Katy Perry reached out to everyone who was watching the MTV VMAs on Sunday noting that they should donate to the Red Cross.

She said during one point of the show that everyone at the VMAs are sending love to those affected by Hurricane Harvey.
