Amid the cheating reports regarding Jay Z and Beyonce Knowles, his sister-in-law Solange Knowles went nuclear on him when they were in an elevator during the Met Gala in 2014. Now, the rap mogul revealed his side of the story and what really happened during that time.
Jay Z had an interview for the podcast show “Rap Radar.” The hosts of the show, Elliot Wilson and Brian “B.Dot” Miller then asked him about the elevator incident that made headlines in 2014.
Jay Z says it was the only time he and Solange ever disagreed
The 47-year-old father-of-three said that it was the only time he and Solange ever had a disagreement.
Before and after the elevator incident, Jay Z said “we’ve been cool.” He also noted that he and Solange have always had a great relationship as opposed to what he had with his brothers, whom he fought and argued with all his life. He then pointed out that who they are in the entertainment industry made “things go into a different space” but he assured that the fight was nothing.
The rapper also said that Solange is like his sister and he will protect her. He does not even refer to her as his sister-in-law but his sister, E! News reported.
What happened in the elevator fight
The surveillance video came amid the reports that Jay Z and Beyonce were set to divorce. In the video, it could be seen that Solange and Jay Z got into an argument while Beyonce kept quiet.
Later, Solange hit and kicked Jay Z before security tried to restrain her. Beyonce tried to stop them but she failed.
According to People magazine, a source said that Solange had a run-in with Rachel Roy earlier that night and it was what provoked the sister-in-law of Jay Z to attack him. During that time, Roy was linked to the rapper as reports claimed he was cheating on Beyonce with her.
Also, Jay Z reportedly said something inappropriate to Beyonce and Solange and that was when the latter snapped.
Ten days after the fight, Jay Z, Beyonce, and Solange released a statement saying that they have worked through it and will not reveal the cause of the fight. The statement also said that Jay Z and Solange will assume their share of responsibility of what happened and that they have apologized to each other so they can move forward as a united family.
The joint statement also said that Solange was not intoxicated throughout the evening contrary to the other reports that time. They said they will put the drama behind them and hoped that everyone else will do the same.
