The viral music video “Despacito” reportedly did not get any nominations for the main categories at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards. MTV has issued a statement regarding the alleged snub for the trending video, Associated Press reported.
Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito” has been dubbed as the most watched YouTube video of all time, according to music website Billboard. The music video has earned more than three billion views as of press time.
A spokesperson for the MTV released a statement through Associated Press explaining why the video did not receive any nominations for the main categories.
The spokesperson stated last Monday that “Despacito” is not included in the submissions for the consideration. The network airs the video on one of their sub-channels, “MTV Tres,” but not on the main MTV channel, the report said.

Through the Spanish-language music video was not considered for the main category, joining the likes of Bruno Mars and Kendrick Lamar, it will be acknowledged at the 2017 VMAs as a nominee for the summer category, AP added. They stated that the category and the list will be revealed during the week of the actual show.

Luis Fonsi comments
The viral music video has generated billions of views around the world and has been made into various covers such as in India. The song itself was used in dance parties, exercise classes, workouts and more.
People recently reported a comment made by one of the song’s artists Luis Fonsi regarding the alleged MTV VMA nomination snub. The singer noted that the bigger award it got was being hailed as “most watched video in history.”
He told People that he hopes the video will get some awards in the future, but right now, he thinks that it received the biggest accolade “straight from the people.” The 2017 MTV Video Music Awards is an annual event that honors the biggest names in the music industry.
There will be performances from notable artists and the presentation of the plaques itself. The show will air live from Inglewood, California on August 27. International pop singer Katy Perry is reportedly hosting the show, along with her individual performance.
