George R. R. Martin, the author of the immensely popular book series called, “A Song of Ice and Fire,” has gained a distinctive reputation in the recent past. The top-viewed TV show, “Game of Thrones,” which is based on his books, recently premiered its season 7 finale. While everyone else seems to be watching the show, it makes one really wonder whether Martin does too.
The author watches the show
Martin recently confirmed with Entertainment Weekly that he does indeed watch “Game of Thrones” episodes whenever he gets the time. However, he might not be an ardent follower like the rest of the fans.
In fact, he hasn’t got the time to catch up with the latest season of the show, either. During an interview with Metro last month, Martin had said that he doesn’t have enough time to watch the show. Being so involved in many other events such as book tours, he doesn’t really get the time to watch the show. Furthermore, he was even reported as saying that the show is pretty different than what is actually written in his books.
R. R. Martin still working on “Winds of Winter”
There are a lot of characters who have already died in the book, and are still present in the show till date, he told Metro. He also went on to reveal that a few years ago, he was approached by film studios with the proposal of adapting his book in the form of full-fledged movies.
He was quick to refuse those proposals, for reasons best known to him. Currently, he is working towards the satisfactory completion of “Winds Of Winter,” the sixth novel of his series. He said that he expects the new book to launch towards the beginning of next year at least.
“Game of Thrones” spin-off?
According to a report by Gamespot, George R.
R. Martin is also getting himself involved with HBO to help them come up with worthy spin-offs of the TV show. Earlier last month, HBO confirmed that there will be two spin-offs after the “Game of Thrones” TV series concludes. These will possibly be based on the life before the battle of all kingdoms began. The show is expected to revolve around the lives of Ned Stark, Robert Baratheon and the formation of Targaryen family.
The secretive union of Rhaegon Targaryen with Lyanna Stark will also be showcased in length. The eighth season of “Game of Thrones” is rumored to debut in 2019, which is two years from now. It will be the last installation of the show and is expected to establish a conclusion to the battle between the living and the dead.
