Tons of whispers and predictions about what's to come in "The Originals" Season 5 have been making a frenzy in the headlines as of late following the renewal announcement. Though show runners have yet to reveal the full details about the upcoming season's final casting, the much-talked about crossover characters from "The Vampire Diaries" have long been speculated by its viewers.

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 was entirely wrapped in March this year, however, many fans are still patiently on the lookout to see their favorite characters on the small screens once again.

As per Entertainment Weekly, reports say that Caroline Forbes (Candice King) is set to join the fifth season of the mega-popular supernatural series.

What's next for Caroline in "The Originals" future?

Shortly after "TVD" Season 8 has bid farewell, show runner Julie Plec mentioned the possibility of placing crossover characters in "The Originals." While she didn't mention anyone in particular, Caroline Forbes was on top of the candidates' checklist.

Furthermore, the guesses apparently became more rampant when Alaric Saltzman (Matthew Davis) unexpectedly paid a visit to New Orleans to lend a helping hand to the Mikaelsons, who were struggling to defeat The Hollow at the time. Even before Season 4 came, the brewing predictions and fan-made theories about Caroline joining "The Originals" were non-stop.

It is not known yet if Caroline will be joining for the entire duration of Season 5, but many believe that this character is going to spice up the new chapter a little bit. Needless to say that a portion of Caroline's story has been relatively connected to Niklaus (Joseph Morgan), many fans are also looking forward to seeing what's in store for another Caroline-Klause romance.

Season 5 will be its last?

Despite the massive wishes to see beloved characters joining the journey of "The Originals," recent reports indicate that the series will be ending for good after Season 5. Julie Plec made the announcement on Twitter last Thursday, July 20, writing "It's both a gift and a burden to be able to control the ending of a series.

Many shows are not lucky enough to have a hand in deciding when the end has come."

The first few seasons of the series did a great job in terms of ratings, but the last two seasons struggled to maintain the same number of viewers. Aside from the fall in ratings, it has also been speculated that most of the tenured actors reportedly want to take on different roles outside "The Originals" and work on different things.

However, this remains nothing but a rumor until further confirmation. On the other hand, "The Originals" Season 5 is expected to return next year. For now, everything will remain under wraps until the network and show runners give the green light.
