The cast of "Supergirl" came to the San Diego Comic-Con and discussed details regarding season 3, and revealed a new Season 3 trailer during the panel. Included in the panel were Katie McGrath, David Harewood, Melissa Benoist, Jeremy Jordan, Mehcad Brooks and Chris Wood. The newest cast member Odette Annabelle and showrunners Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner were also in the panel.

Queller and Rovner are the new showrunners of the show after "Supergirl" co-creator Ali Adler left. Adler will, however, stay as a consultant for the show, as she will now also be handling the CW’s new show, Dynasty.

New season details

It was revealed in the panel that the theme of Season 3 is going to be what it means to be human. Benoist mentioned that Kara always tried to balance Supergirl with a journalist and that this season, the scales are leaning on Supergirl. She adds that after what happened with Mon-El last season, Kara is coping with the grief of losing him.

The appearance of Chris Wood, who plays Mon-El in the show, sparked the interests of fans if Mon-El is returning to "Supergirl" for Season 3. In the season finale, Mon-El left Earth in a pod after Kara released lead to force the Daxamites to leave. Showrunner Rovner confirmed that Mon-El will return at some point in Season 3, but when and how will be one of the mysteries of the new season.

Meanwhile, Queller teased that James Olsen, played by Mechad Brooks, will have a new love interest. James Olsen will also be continuing his role as Guardian, and will also be going back to his roots as a journalist and photographer.

At the end of the season finale, Alex, played by Chyler Leigh, asked Maggie, played by Floriana Lima, to marry her.

This season, Alex will be balancing her personal life and her work in the D.E.O.

The Queen of Media returns

Rovner and Queller announced that the fan favorite Cat Grant, played by Calista Flockhart, will return for Season 3. According to Entertainment Weekly, Cat will be in the first episode and recur throughout the season.

In Season 2, Cat decided to move on from Cat Co.

to conquer other seas in the beginning of the season. Cat returned in the last two episodes to help Supergirl and the D.E.O. defeat the Daxamites.

New Characters

The show will be introducing new villains in Season 3. Odette Annabelle was cast to play Reign. In the last sequence of the season finale, it was revealed that another baby was sent from Krypton to Earth, that it will go strong to reign. The actress said that Reign is going to be a good match against Supergirl.

Adrian Pasdar will be playing the real estate developer Morgan Edge, who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. He will be going up against Lena Luthor, played by McGrath who is now part of the series’ regular cast. Yael Grobglas, who plays Petra in Jane the Virgin, will be playing the character Psi in Supergirl.

Psi is a psychic alien who uses people's minds against them.

The father of J’onn J’onzz, played by Harewood, will also be introduced this season. Carl Lumby will be playing M’yrnn J’onzz, a pacifist religious leader in Mars. M’yrnn will be pushing his son J’onn in unexpected ways. Emma Tremblay will be joining Season 3 as Ruby, a smart and independent kid who is fascinated by Supergirl but ends up in trouble because of it.

"Supergirl" Season 3 will premiere on October 9 on the CW.
