The death of Princess Diana shocked the world, and the subsequent massive outpouring of grief showed the scale of her impact to many people within and outside Britain.
As August 31, 2017, approaches, marking two decades since the car accident in Pont de l'Alma road tunnel in Paris occurred, HBO is showing a new ITV documentary about the Princess of Wales. How will this documentary be different from the others before it?
Prince William and Prince Harry are on board
Since the death of Princess Diana, there were plenty of biopics, films, documentaries, books, and articles shown, published or written about the late Princess of Wales but what makes this new one distinct is the participation of her two sons, William and Harry.
The documentary which titled “Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy,” shows the two princes “speaking about their mother as they look through family photographs, reminisce about their childhood and revisit the scenes of her charitable activities.”, according to an advance review by the New York Times writer, Roslyn Sulcas.
More In Depth and Personal Insight
By featuring Princes William and Harry, this documentary on Princess Diana sets itself apart from the rest by giving viewers a more in depth and personal insight as to her sons in relation to the tragic event two decades ago.
#Prince William was quoted in an introduction to the documentary to have said, “We’ve never spoken in depth about her in this way before, and we do not plan to do so again in the future.”
Last Phone Call
The documentary reveals that both the princess spoke to Diana before the accident.
Prince Harry was quoted saying, "All I do remember is probably regretting for the rest of my life how short the phone call was.", according to BBC News.
Prince William, on the other hand, said, "Harry and I were in a desperate rush to say goodbye… if I'd known… I wouldn't have been so blasé about it and everything else.”
No Gossips or Scandal Revelation
It is clear from the title, “Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy,” that this biopic will be a personal one for both Prince William and Prince Harry instead of the usual gossips or scandal revelations, which comprised the many of the documentaries and films about Diana and her life.
Among her legacies, Princess Diana’s works for people living with HIV and her campaign against landmines will surely be highlighted.
Diana’s brother, old friends, including Elton John, her ladies in waiting, and gardener will also appear in the documentary.
“Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy” is showing on HBO.
