It came as a complete surprise for fans when they were shown the first episode of the highly anticipated “Outlander” Season 3 at the end of the panel at San Diego Comic-Con show on Friday. While fans were just expecting a trailer of the third season to get aired during the event, there was an advance screening of the complete episode titled, "The Battle Joined," almost two months before the actual September premiere.

Upcoming season to be pretty interesting

The Outlander” panel included executive producers Maril Davis and Ronald D.

Moore, author Diana Gabaldon, series stars Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser), Caitriona Balfe (Claire Fraser), Tobias Menzies (Black Jack /Frank Randall), Richard Rankin (Roger Wakefield) and Sophie Skelton (Brianna). The excited panelists talked about the upcoming “Outlander” Season 3 for about 30 minutes before screening the episode. A video recap of the first two “Outlander” seasons was also released by Starz.

Although the panel did not reveal any major season three spoilers, Moore said that the season three is quite pivotal and interesting as it takes the characters on a long journey from the 17th century to the 1940s, '50s, and '60s. It literally takes the characters far from where they started.

Season 3 episode 1 spoilers and details

The “Outlander” season 3 episode one, written by executive producer Ronald D. Moore, shows hundreds of dead bodies on the battlefield at Culloden and a showdown between Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Black Jack (Tobias Menzies).

While the former survives the war, it remains unclear if Randall is dead or alive after the battle.

Set in the twentieth century in Boston, the episode shows Jamie and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) trying to adjust in their own respective lives. Notably, the two will be spending a lot of time apart in the upcoming season. Claire can be seen struggling to start her life with Frank in 1945.

Claire, who is pregnant with Jamie’s child, continues to argue with Frank all throughout the episode. The couple has a big fight over whether Claire should apply for American citizenship. It is to be noted that although Claire and Frank can be seen living together in the same house, there is a big emotional gap between them. It seems like she cannot get over her attachment with her child’s father. The episode wraps up with the birth of Claire and Jamie’s daughter.

Now the fans are pretty much excited to know how Jamie and Claire will reunite in the upcoming episodes. “Outlander" Season 3 will premiere on Sunday, Sept. 10 on Starz.
