We have reached the twilight of the geek calendar. Summer is at its peak, a few Marvel films have come to cinemas, and San Diego Comic-Con has passed. What’s left to enjoy? August sees the arrival of some astonishing original series, such as “The Defenders.” If you have plans to enjoy a film on Netflix, you may watch “10 Things I Hate about You,” “The Diabolical,” “Superbad” or “To Kill a Mockingbird.”
‘10 Things I Hate About You’
Cameron James, a high school student, became instantly smitten with famous sophomore Bianca Stratford.
Geeky Michael Eckman, Cameron’s best friend, warned him that Stratford was conceited and vapid. “10 Things I Hate About You” was directed by Gil Junger and starred Julia Stiles, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Larisa Oleynik and Heath Ledger. The story was inspired by a novel of the same name by William Shakespeare, retold in a high school setting in 1999. In its opening weekend, “10 Things I Hate about You” grossed over $8.3 million in the United States and Canada.
‘The Diabolical’
“The Diabolical” was a science fiction movie directed by Alistair Legrand and scripted by Luke Harvis. It featured Ali Larter, Arjun Gupta, Max Rose, Chloe Perrin, Kurt Carley, Merrin Dungey, Patrick Fischler, Wilmer Calderon, Laura Margolis, and Joe Egender in the leading characters.
The story revolved around a widow, Madison, who lived in a suburban home with her two kids. Her financial problems prompted Madison to consider declaring bankruptcy. It has a low score on Rotten Tomatoes, 43%, but it is still an entertaining movie.
‘Superbad'
Released in 2007, “Superbad” was a teen comedy directed by Greg Mottola and produced by Judd Apatow. It featured Jonah Hill, Casey Margolis, Michael Cera, Bill Hader, Seth Rogen, Emma Stone, Laura Marano, and Aviva Baumann in the leads. The film received favorable reviews, with critics admiring its dialogues and overall presentation. “Superbad” proved to be a financial success, grossing over $169 million against a budget of $20 million.
‘To Kill a Mockingbird’
“To Kill a Mockingbird” was a 1962 film directed by Robert Mulligan and written by Horton Foote. It was inspired by a novel of the same name by Harper Lee, starring Gregory Peck and Mary Badham in the leads. The movie received positive reviews from audiences and critics and was a box office success. “To Kill a Mockingbird” won three Academy Awards and three Golden Globes. The story revolved around a young protagonist, Jean Louise, who lived in the fictional city of Maycomb. Robert Duvall, William Windom, Crahan Denton, Richard Hale, and Phillip Alford played the supporting characters in this film.
