J.K. Rowling earlier announced the coming of a “Harry Potter” exhibit in celebration of the series' 20th anniversary. True to her words, there will be a special event titled “A History of Magic” at the British Library starting in October 2017 until February 2018.
Aside from the display, fans will also be treated with the release of two new books as announced by the British publishing house, Bloomsbury.
These manuscripts will expand the fans' knowledge about the world of wizardry, although it won’t include the franchise’s famous characters.
The two new books coming
The first one will be titled "Harry Potter: A History Of Magic – The Book of the Exhibition." This book will allow readers to know the students’ curriculum at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This includes all the subjects Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley took when they were still at Hogwarts, like Herbology, Astronomy, and Care of Magical Creatures. Of course, who will forget Severus Snape’s Defense Against the Dark Arts?
The second one is “Harry Potter: A Journey through the History of Magic.” This will be different from the first book. Fans are about to see the never-before-seen pages of “sketches and manuscripts” by J.K. Rowling herself. It even contains magical illustrations by Jim Kay. There will also be “weird, wonderful, and inspiring artifacts” from the British Library’s archives, Reuters reported.
The second book will also give its readers deeper knowledge about the developing world of Harry Potter. It will let the fans see the glimpse of the franchise's Warner Brothers studio in London. It will also feature “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child."
A worldwide success
The series' success started when its first novel, “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” by J.K.
Rowling was first released on June 26, 1997. It sold a whopping 450 million copies and adopted in 29 different languages. The book was then followed by six best-selling installments and movie adaptations that earned up to $7 billion that made it a worldwide success.
A holiday experience
Meanwhile, to extend the celebration of the franchise’s 20th anniversary, there is a coming HP-themed holiday experience called "Christmas in the Wizarding World." This will occur at selected shopping malls this fall. Fans can now visit Hogsmeade village and check Ollivander's shop. They, too, can collect different merchandise like house sweaters, plush owls, and the series-inspired sweets just like in the movies.
